Katherine: If you really are not going to use it, why not check around
with local churches to see if any of them has a kniting ministry? I
know in the Anglican church we have Missions to Seamen, which includes
"Christmas at Sea" where we knit caps and scarves, send them to a
designated port city where they are packed in with other gifts, and
given to sea captains who will be at sea over Christmas, for them to
give out to the crew on Christmas morning. Also, there is the "Prayer
Shawl" ministry, where people knit shawls to be given to those who are
in "trouble, sorrow, need, sickness or any other adversity". I know
that after Katrina, churches all over North America sent prayer shawls
to the local branch of their denomination, and they were given out to
those who had lost everything they owned in the flooding. I assume the
same thing happend in Cedar Falls after the floods last year.

Last year, I found a lot of yarn in an estate sale, and bought it up for
our knitters. I dropped off 63 skeins of yarn in the knitting closet,
and by Christmas it had all been knitted up into caps and scarves.
Remember, a lot of the knitters are older retired folk on fixed incomes,
and yarn is expensive. If you are not going to use yours, please don't
bury your treasure underground, give it to God and She will make use of it.
