You might want to consider felled seams as being even smoother.


I did. A felled seam has two lines of stitching that could touch the
skin, while a french seam has one. My assumption in the baby clothes I
plan to make, excluding the footie pj's, is that I'll be using cotton
batiste or cotton lawn, so the fabric should be softer and smoother
than the thread.
