Default Singer 4411HD advice

This is a very inexpensive machine, only $120 on Amazon, and the manual
is weak.

I'm teaching myself to do some work and having a hard time. It doesn't
work very well when I freehand attaching straps to fabric - can't make
the fabric feed sideways. Is making multiple "buttonholes" a good
technique to form a durable connection?

The material is denim or "duck" and the straps are nylon tubes so it
means going through 2 layers of each.

Would an embroidery foot enable me to feed the material from the left,
right as well as front and back?

Or

Not an appropriate machine for that work at all.
If anything I would try the 3 stepo zigzag on a very short stitch length.
But that is way to heavy work for a machine like that.,

Thanks for the input. I already bought the machine, so I won't give up on
it yet. Singer didn't give the motor amp specs - maybe they aren't proud of
them. It pushes the needle through the material, I just make a mess using
the all purpose foot without the feed dog engaged.

Can I feed the cloth from all four directions with a darning/embroidery
foot?
