Default 99% OT - what's been going on...

Well, Senior Week and HS graduation have been and gone. I really didn't see
much of DS all week. He's been traveling with his pack of male buddies and
one of them has a house that seems to accommodate large numbers; that poor
mother. Nightly "sleepovers" and feeds them too. I feed 3 of them along with
my usual 4 and the table was empty. And they mostly cleaned up after
themselves too.

Good kids - cleaned their plates, and the table.

So, DS is now officially a HS graduate and I really didn't realize it was a
rite of passage for me too.

But a good one - isn't it?

Don't think I've picked up a needle for days except to replace a
button...that is definitely a plan for the later part of today.

So, did you get your needle picked up, dear? Personally, mine are
practically rusting from lack of use. However, I think that I'm finally
finding time, motivation, and energy to get back to it.

On the topic - it's more deciding which of the 3 things that must be done
now to pick up for the NOW NOW! But, at least in a bizarre it's almost good
way - my mngr has only scheduled me to work 4 hours next week - and the 4
that was this morning - so hope springs eternal that things will get done.

Now for the OT what's going on.....as I likely whined about months ago, I
fell at work (stupid part time job) and hurt my knee and ankle.
Complication being that the affected ankle has a congenital deformity (and
has endured lots of significant and complex surgeries such that a normal
orthopedic surgeon won't deal with it but instead says "go to Dr. X, the
ultra specialist in foot/ankle"). No big deal - so I think 'cause it didn't
seem toooo bad. However with the wonders of worker's comp, it took a month
before I saw an orthopedist, who told me (after the MRI) that I'd torn my
meniscus in a few places, and had a post-tibial tendon tear. So....do PT,
it's be better in a few months, and stay off work for a couple of weeks.
Which with PT was extended for a couple of more weeks - which the HR person
at corporate then interceded saying I'd be on a stool at work not on my
feet, so I went back to work (big mistake) for a couple of weeks in
mid-April - which was 3 weeks after the doc saw me. Which then led to me
seeing the doc again, who then in Mid-May said take 2 more weeks off, then I
was supposed to go back 2 weeks ago and finally got scheduled this week.
Whew. In the meantime, been doing my PT, and working on getting less fluffy
- hah. Plus our new gym opened so I've met with the personal trainer and
started other exercise routine (not to hurt injury). While this is going
on, we noticed the perpetual swelling of my knee, and intermittent of ankle.
The therapist expressed concern that there is "something going on there" and
PT isn't taking care of it. With much correspondence and talking to
insurance companies, I finally get an apptmt for an "Independent Medical
Exam" - to which I am legally entitled, and the comp adjuster tells me I
have to pay, then it goes thru some system. My insurance co- an amazingly
nice and seemingly competent person figures this out and agrees that I can
do this, and that while they may reject the claim and forward it to the
state/worker's comp - if it's not paid then my personal insurance will make
the claim primary and pay. OK. So..... I go for the IME yesterday. The
doctor (in group I do see) is at the least astonished that the treating
ortho hasn't scoped me knee. To be precise - he sticks the MRI up and says
"hey, right away I see 3 big tears in your meniscus, and there are likely
more if we look for a bit." Continuing with "doesn't matter if you weigh
105 pounds or more - it's not going to heal like this, and you have to get
it scoped - 20 minutes - and then do PT. It's silly to be doing PT now -
you have to get this fixed. OK! So, he's going to right a note to the
treating guy, and then fill out some myriad amount of papers. He was
shocked 'cause if it had been scoped right away, then 6 wks therapy I'd have
been back to work 2 months ago. For the ankle - ugh - he said that's about
how much pain I'm willing to deal with on a regular basis, and that he
hadn't done this surgery in years - but that even with a comp case, it would
have to be referred to a specialist, and couldn't be done until the knee is
fixed. Okie dokie. So, after work today - home & taking pix of my
grotesquely swollen ankle and knee. Ugh - no break at work - though it's
fun working with this particular morning crew.

So, that's what's been going on here ....

Ah, what else - as my body has decided I'm at least 192. My hematologist
(saw him on Mon, DH tagged along) has expressed concern that perhaps my rare
anemia has gotten a bit more complicated. In that while I seem to have some
RBC now (5 wks post being "pumped up") - evidently my iron levels are still
so low that if it drops just a tiny bit, another pump-up. So, hmmm - he's a
bit perplexed and we're hoping it doesn't mean that my bone marrow is
crapping out - confusion abounds. But, OTOH, if it just means spending a
day every 6-8 weeks being pumped up -well, so it goes. He did say I could
exercise, etc - as long as the iron doesn't drop 1 more point - woo hoo.
It's so much fun to be a medical puzzle. Did let me explain what happens
with anemia to the god daughter who has been erratic about taking her
supplements 'cause she's too busy, doesn't get good info from the college
med folks, etc (understandably as she was a very busy junior at MIT this
past season).

Anyhow - sorry for whining....but I think my general discomfort has somehow
interfered with my stitching. Stitching usually makes me feel good - but
things just seem to be interfering.

Hope everyone else is having a good start to summer. Good thing - daylilies
look FABULOUS! Hooray and thanks to Cheryl.
