I just got a shipment of gansey yarns from Iriss of Penzance.

These authentic British breed gansey yarns are as different from any wool
yarn that I have ever knit; as silk is different from wool. First, they are
stretchy beyond belief, which makes them a delight to knit fast and tight.
Second, they look like crap if they are not knit just right. I need
knitting lessons!!! No wonder these yarns are not popular for general
knitting!

But for a master knitter, I really can see how these would be the yarns of
choice. And, more than any other yarn that I have ever worked with, it is
the yarn that I would like to wear when I am active in cool weather.

That acrylic gardening sweater is going to get cut up into paint rags real
soon now.

But that's ok. I spent my August mad money on another sweater's worth
of Bendigo since one of the knitting cronies is placing an order this
week. I'm getting the 8-ply this time as I'd like to knit something
on needles a bit bigger than 2.5mm but still have that gansey look.

Ooo. I'd like to see photos of this at some point. I like gansies

We picked out all the stuff for the new house this week and finalized
the construction plans yesterday afternoon. When discussing the
fireplace and lighting elements in the downstairs living room, the
designer we are working with asked me "What kinds of things will you be
doing in that room?" DME just rolled his eyes. I got launched into a
discussion about crochet and knitting, and proceeded to show her on the
floor plan exactly where my proposed work area was, as well as where the
wool and cotton would be stored (built-in shelves in that room where I
can put big baskets of fibers -- I get hot flashes thinking about it).

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have actually built my yarn stash storage
directly into the new house. My husband must love me very much to allow
it.

Still not the best pic, but the only one forthcoming until I get a new
camera, as the thing has now decided to just Not Work At All whereas
for a while it was just Not Taking Hi-Rez photos.

Gotta love technology: I can get about 6x the pixel density with more
onboard storage than the largest memory chip my now-dead camera will
handle, for less than 1/4 the money I paid for the dead camera.

That's progress.

I had trouble getting uniform tension, and with the high stitch definition,
every stitch that was not exactly the same tension stood out like a sore
thumb. I think it has to do with the elasticity of the yarn, I am sure
there is some little technique that will turn that elasticity into a virtue,
but there is learning curve standing between me and beauty right now.

I had not knit anything that ugly in years.
