geometric pattern generator for old Macs
 

While looking for something else entirely, I came across the "Kali"
tiling pattern generator for Classic MacOS. It creates patterns
based on the 17 different plane symmetry groups. Within about five
minutes of initial tinkering with it I came up with this:

which looks like it ought to have potential as a quilt design,
albeit not that easy to machine-piece.

I couldn't get Kali to run on the Classic environment on MacOS X.

The software (along with other things that run on other and more

Kali4Star looks to me to be easiest to put together!

Everything is relative of course!! Perhaps I could try that one too?

If I manage to get anything sensible done, I'll post pictures. I'll
just finish the baby quilt I'm doing, then have a go.

This is a melon with a strip pieced rectangle on the sides. Not too bad
other than matching the seams at the angles... and some partial seams.

That's very similar to the top that I bought at an auction and
hand-quilted. The top was pieced by hand, and many of the fabrics were
from feed sacks. It's toward the bottom he

"Friendship Chain" though I'm not sure where I got the name -- I'm sure
I did some looking through websites, etc. It's got several other names
in Barbara Brackman's book.

First of all I saw it as a star with kite shapes in between each pair of
points and diamonds at the sides!
Then I could see a snowballed square with pieced rectangles set along
the sides sewn with a partial seam.
I can't see a melon at all g

I see it as a bunch of four-pointed stars with lozenges filling in the
spaces between them. But those lattice patterns can always be seen
in lots of different ways. Have a few more - all of them made out of
simple block shapes but not lined up in obvious ways, with no seams
running right across:
