Dolphins
 

I`m with you there Sheena. They may appear happy when raised in captivity,
but it`s relative. Many don`t know or remember life as it should be lived.
As for the ones allowed to go free and come and go as they please - it`s
only because they`ve become so reliant on man for food - or just treats.
Much easier to come back in knowing they`ll get easy pickings.

Being so intelligent they must feel "Why should I run myself ragged chasing
a poxy fish out here - when there`s usually a man with a bucketful ashore,
just for me!"

Yes, it`s lovely for people being able to "swim with dolphins" and for
disabled kids to be able to feel them, and it may give the dolphins relief
from the crashing boredom engendered by confinement, but I`m afraid it still
smacks of using and abusing them. Not a lot better than the life of an
organ-grinder`s monkey, figuratively speaking!

You just brought tears to my eyes. I believe in some way that animals
communicate telepathically with one another. They use pictures instead of
concepts and language. (Though, with Mika who now never shuts up unless
she
says her name 70,000 times a day is not a good model for telepathy!)

Maybe taking Rance to these brilliant creatures who are able to
communicate with
one another via their blow hole sounds, squeaks and trills. Oh, if Rance
could
feel connected in some way that would blow our minds. I guess Mark and I
will
have to take them as a treat. These people are so broke. Their other so
is in
Iraq and Pam, their mom, my friend, is absolutely freaking out every
second of
every day. Thankfully a physician recognized it and gave her medication
so she
can cope.

I have a problem with this. Why should a dolphin be kept in
captivity for the entertainment/betterment of a human? I have always
disliked this. Having observed dolphins swimming freely alongside
boats and a ship at sea, their speed, agility and grace, how could ANY
contained pool suffice for them ?? The same applies to whales.

I look at them and my heart bleeds for them, a quick flip of their
body and they are to the other side of their container, cruel in my
opinion. Why do you even suppose a dolphin could be happy in these
circumstances ?

Sheena - I say let them go, to be free and surf through the miles of
water where they belong!
