Waaay OT; Muslim cartoons.

There is a lot of talk on places like BBC World about a set of
cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohommed in a humerous light, which were
published in a Danish newspaper. They have since been published in
several other European newspapers. I have tried to find them on the web
without success. Anyone know a URL? TIA

Jim.
why do you have this need to look at material that is offensive and
insults the feelings of so many people.

Maybe it's because of curiosity and freedom of speech in press? I have
seen them and I can say that they maybe have been taken over the line,
but the fuss about them is way over the top.

Exactly, Johanna, the rest of the world`s leaders and religions have always
had to have the ability to see humour in themselves, why should Islam be
exempt? I haven`t seen these cartoons, but heard something about them on
the news, and would like to see them to judge for myself.

Johana we have a saying that one should not judge somebody until he
stands in the other person`s shoes,,, For you it is a matter of `taken
over the line ` , for the Muslim believers it is a blasphemy. There
are Limits even to the Holy rule of freedom of speech.
walking all over what is Holy to another one , isn`t freedom of speech
, it is plain Rudeness, and shows a lack of minimal good will towards
the other persons.

The uproar has made me very curious too. I wanted to know why the
Muslim community is so upset about some cartoons. The link:
http://www.di2.nu/files/Muhammed_Car...ds_Posten.html
is to the cartoons in question. While I do not agree with the content
of the cartoons, and I feel they are very derogatory towards Muslim, I
understand that the artists were expressing their opinions and
impressions of the faith. I will even go so far as to say I can
understand where those misconceptions may stem from. The media seems
focused on showing the majority of images of Islam (at least here in
the American Midwest) as a violent, terrorist faith. I know this is an
incorrect portrayal, because I've met many faithful Muslims that are
peaceful people. I think it was in poor taste for the papers to run the
cartoons, but I'm very conservative when it comes to mocking other
religions.
At the same time, I don't think that the "Palestinian gunmen [who]
jumped on the outer wall of a European Union office in Gaza City on
Thursday and demanded an apology. Masked gunmen also briefly took over
an EU office in Gaza on Monday." were necessarily helping to
set-straight any misconceptions about their religion that the cartoons
may have caused.
