Stubby screwdriver

I've been breaking needles and creating bird's nests under the needle plate.

It takes me a while to unscrew the needleplate with the supplied flat Singer
screwdriver. Has anyone found a driver short enough to fit under the
housing that you can spin instead of having to change your grip?

This should work, and it might be small enough fit in the mini utility box.

Anyone have a better prospect?

Anyone have a better prospect?

Sounds counter intuitive but I use a 12 inch long with a 3/16" blade. At an
angle.

I love the one that came with my Singers XL5000&6000:

But your question encouraged me to do a search. I may invest in
one of these:

That looks OK, but it's flat, so I still would have to use my other hand to
change my grip every 180deg.

these:

Pretty good price too.

I can go at an angle with Phillips head, Singer OEM screws are standard
head.

I may sacrifice an old, long screwdriver by cutting off the shank and
epoxying some string back on for a grip. The Janome store is ~1/2 hour
drive.

Pretty good price too.

Once you break them loose they come out easy with fingers only.
My 12 inch has not failed me ever. At least not in 35 years.

My fingers are not so nimble. The Singer hobby model only has 2 1/2" of
vertical clearance and a bulky housing directly above.

I have worked on them. That is what I do all day every day

Me too. Amazon has it for $8 with free shipping. Looks like it would fit
any of my existing bits too.

http://www.harborfreight.com/8-piece...ver-92630.html

This is on sale at Harbor freight, $3.99

It's the usual HF low quality, but the knurled knob on top is very easy to
spin independent of the ratchet.
