Stubby screwdriver
 

I've been breaking needles and creating bird's nests under the needle plate.

It takes me a while to unscrew the needleplate with the supplied flat Singer
screwdriver. Has anyone found a driver short enough to fit under the
housing that you can spin instead of having to change your grip?

This should work, and it might be small enough fit in the mini utility box.

Sounds counter intuitive but I use a 12 inch long with a 3/16" blade. At an
angle.

That looks OK, but it's flat, so I still would have to use my other hand to
change my grip every 180deg.

I can go at an angle with Phillips head, Singer OEM screws are standard
head.

I may sacrifice an old, long screwdriver by cutting off the shank and
epoxying some string back on for a grip. The Janome store is ~1/2 hour
drive.

My 12 inch has not failed me ever. At least not in 35 years.

It's the usual HF low quality, but the knurled knob on top is very easy to
spin independent of the ratchet.
