Totally OT..a shock!

Got a message via Facebook yesterday from my Japanese DIL, Ayako. ":Are
you going anywhere in October, Mom?" I replied "NO".

Next thing was "I thought a girl's getaway trip would be nice,". I
thought about it,...and cautiously asked:What do you have in mind"?
Thinking Key West, DC, New York, a casino then...

DS answered.."Mom, somewhere she has always wanted to go to..England!".

I was a bit snowed..she has now the one week reservations by air, and
this afternoon I found a hotel. MY GOD...it is SO expensive in England!!

If it were a longer time, I would have gone to the outskirts, and
probably paid the same amount for two weeks.
Anyway we fly out of Orlando on Oct 12. We are checking into the Holiday
Inn Express near Victoria for six nights. You don't WANT to know the
cost LOL. Could probably rent the White House for that LOL

I figure I am now 75. DH has no desire to fly. Aya has never been there,
and has always dreamed of it. So...I cannot think of a better way to
spend my stash LOL.

We are near enough to the coach tours that will take us out to the
British countryside and special sites. Also very close to Victoria
station...the best railway to Gatwick Airport.

So...I have told her to pick out two or three coach tours to places she
wants to see..and the other days can be spent in town.

We plan to jam as much as we can in six full days...and also meet with
some members of my family. Maybe lunch or something on Sunday.

Just blown away....no other term for it!

Gill not just older, but hopefully better! You in England? Weather? I
guess slacks and tops, and a light jacket.
Please advise.

A raincoat as well, I live in Derbyshire and I have just put away my
lighter jackets and brought out my thicker one. It is usually warmer
down south but I would pack a cardigan as well. Layers could be the
answer. We have had a lot of heavy showers up here interspersed with a
few sunny periods. On the whole it has not been a good summer, if it has
been dry it has been windy. Not had many days when I could go and sit
out on my garden swing.
Hugs

Ah, Gill - sounds fantastic. How lovely for you.

As everyone else has told you, it could be quite chilly, especially given
that you've had plenty of time acclimatizing to the Florida (even a bit
north FL) weather. Of course, you can always shop there....I've never
forgotten the frost in August the first year I was working there.

I'm sure we all have our favorite places to visit in England - and there's
plenty to do in London. What great fun for you. Personally, one of my
favorites is going to Hastings, I just love visiting the Abbey, and the
battlefield grounds - I don't know why. It's been a long while since I've
been - when I was working near Southend, the joke was that anytime visitors
came, I'd have to go for lunch with the senior guys to give the "what to
visit" info, as I spent so much time on weekends tooling around, that I knew
which castles, museums, historic houses had good exhibits or special things
happening. But, alas, it's been a while.

No doubt you'll have a fabulous time.

I discovered my camera battery charger will work over there, and I have
a spare 4 gb memory card to put in it.!! Probably will rain all the
time, but I don't care.
