Yarn crafts and depression

Does anyone here knit, crochet, etc when they are feeling down in the dumps
and if so do you find it helps to lift your spirits?

Yes to both. Knitting keeps me sane more times than some people would
imagine.

I can admit that I knit and crochet when I'm feeling down becaue it
helps me forget how I am feeling. Also seeing something accomplished
really helps.

I crochet and sew and do some other crafts also and they all help me
keep my sanity, and help get me out of bed on several days. I'm
disable and no longer get to drive and live in a very small town with
no public transparation, so I sit home a lot and do my crafts..

Knitting when I am depressed helps a lot or when I am angry. I find if
I knit, I count stitches and it keeps me from thinking too much. It
certainly helped me through many, many a bad year. I don't know if it
lifted my spirits but it enabled me to get through the bad times.
I often wonder about people who say knitting is relaxing. I don't find
it relaxing but I am incapable of sitting and doing nothing.

Hi Red Rose,

Oh yes, I find knitting and crocheting the best therapy in the world. Case in
point, when my Mom was in the hospital for 110 days my knitting mittens saved
my sanity.

I knit and crochet and they both help me keep my sanity! I have had some
very horrible things to deal with, keeping busy and having my friends here have
been very beneficial for me. I also enjoy being able to make things for other
people, especially things for Project Linus. Helps keep my mind off my woes and
gives me something positive to think about.

My daughter doesn't usually ask me to make anything for her little girls
preferring to get stuff from Gap and Next ,but she recently asked me to
crochet 2 pink ponchos. It made for a great weekend going off to the
woolshop to buy the wool and settling down in front of the telly watching
the Olympic while crocheting away. So yes I guess it does lift my spirit and
makes me happy to create something .

When it's going well, I find crocheting relaxing, but sometimes it makes
me very angry.
