transfers - still complicated?

How is the search for inexpensive ways of transferring images onto clay
(raw
or otherwise) with INK JET printers *without* hassle or expensive transfer
papers coming? I'd like to try to develop a way, but I don't have the
patience to reinvent the wheel.

I have found the method I prefer to use but it does involve using
t-shirt transfer paper, which to me isn't that expensive in the grand
scheme of things. I haven't tried any other method.

Do you apply the transfer before baking, or after? I have
some T-shirt transfer paper that I need to use up, and this
would give me a great incentive to get my clay room all
cleaned up!

I apply it before I bake. Peel it off when it's hot. It helps to put a
piece of glass over the clay and transfer and weight it down with
something oven proof so that the transfer doesn't peel up during
baking. Remember to burnish the transfer onto the clay before you bake
it. Good luck and have fun!

I got a tshirt transfer paper by Brother that didn't work but this
glossy stock did and is for the most part cheaper.

"Meritline premium photo glossy paper"

I tried several other papers with bad results including one from target
that bubbled. This one paper transfered very clean with no need to rub
off paper, when it's peeled warm.

Thank you, Cheryl, that's just the info I needed to get me moving!
I have some *really* thick glass from an old display case I cut up
to bake on, so a piece of that placed over the clay & transfer should
do the trick- it's awfully heavy, being about 1/2 inch thick.
