Singer 4411HD advice
This is a very inexpensive machine, only $120 on Amazon, and the manual is
weak. I'm teaching myself to do some work and having a hard time. It doesn't work very well when I freehand attaching straps to fabric - can't make the fabric feed sideways. Is making multiple "buttonholes" a good technique to form a durable connection? The material is denim or "duck" and the straps are nylon tubes so it means going through 2 layers of each. Would an embroidery foot enable me to feed the material from the left, right as well as front and back? http://www.singerco.com/accessories/...mbroidery-foot Or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Darning-Quil...-/370590539169 |

If anything I would try the 3 stepo zigzag on a very short stitch length. But that is way to heavy work for a machine like that., -- Ron Anderson A1 Sewing Machine 18 Dingman Rd Sand Lake, NY 12153 http://www.a1sewingmachine.com www.facebook.com/A1SewingMachineSpecialists http://www.ebay.com/itm/Darning-Quil...-/370590539169 |

I already bought the machine, so I won't give up on it yet. Singer didn't give the motor amp specs - maybe they aren't proud of them. It pushes the needle through the material, I just make a mess using the all purpose foot without the feed dog engaged. Can I feed the cloth from all four directions with a darning/embroidery foot? |

Have you lowered the presser bar even though there is no foot? If not there is no tension on the top thread. -- Ron Anderson A1 Sewing Machine 18 Dingman Rd Sand Lake, NY 12153 http://www.a1sewingmachine.com www.facebook.com/A1SewingMachineSpecialists |

Yeah, I do put the foot down, but maybe the pressure was set too high. Today I went to a Janome dealer because there are no Singer ones nearby. They had a low shank universal darning foot that fits my machine. It's like this one, but the bracket is metal, not plastic. http://www.amazon.com/Low-shank-Open.../dp/B0038REG2A It's wonderful. I can write my name with it and will try some thicker tasks tomorrow. |

Over the weekend I doubled over some 5oz. leather and sewed it together with some nylon thread. Apart from my mistakes trying to push/feed the leather through, the machine did a workmanlike job. It is still performing way better than my abilities. I don't regret owning it yet. May take me a few years before I outgrow it. |
