Sounding clay workshop in Vermont
ART NEW ENGLAND Summer Workshops 2004 is offering the following workshop with Brian Ransom for sounding clay. If interested call Nancy at the Massachusetts College of Art A.S.A.P. (617) 879-7175 The week long workshop will be held at Bennington College Vermont from August 1-7 http://kate.massart.edu/at_massart/a.../html/main.htm Sounding Clay: Bells, Gongs and More Brian Ransom http://home.eckerd.edu/~ransombc/ (his home page) In this hands-on workshop, Brian Ransom will demonstrate many of the throwing, handbuilding and assembling techniques he uses in creating his unique sounding ceramic sculptures and musical instruments. You will have the opportunity to make and tune your own during the workshop. There will be discussions regarding clay bodies, firing techniques (particularly vapor-firing) and both the formal and informal sculptural processes Brian utilizes. Brian Ransom-sculptor, potter, composer and performer-is Associate Professor of Visual Arts at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL. In addition to his experimental ceramic sound works, Ransom is well known for his unique sculptures from clay that serve as musical instruments. He has made numerous recordings of original music in ensembles of his own invention. Among the awards he has received are the Fulbright/Hays Congressional Fellowship in Peru and the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in sculpture. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, and his work is included in numerous museums and private collections. Regards, James Clark |
