Ive plenty here in several forms,
woven and hard sheets, a pair of old asbestos gloves from woven cloth. etc
We Dont throw anything away.
As you may recall im in the UK and If I wanted some asbestos
insulation off steam pipes i go to one of our local ship yards and
trade some beer with a ships rigger for some.
Your going to have to find some place thats got some and who has it,
to let you have some .

One thing I forgot to mention last time I posted about asbestos, was
we had a big clearout of several old caravans last year, in one of
these I had stored a large quantity of the insulating suspended ceiling
panels. 3ft by 2ft.
In the big fire we had to burn up all the old wood etc, I put several of
these sheets on top of the fire.
Now to my surprise they didnt burn, they insulated the fire to an
extrodinary degree and eventually after ablout half an our crumbled away.
Now my guess is that these sheets are a mixture of glass fibre and
cement in an open pore form. there quite light and meant to be
insulating as well as fire proof, and its easy to cut and break up.
Ive not had a moment to run some trials with it.

It depends on where you are but try your yellow pages for suspended
ceiling installers. If you can find some of this material it might just
be a solution to what ever you plan to use the asbestos powder for.

....and which also reminds me,

Around '67 I had a sculpture professor named Bernie Lemmel who got it into
his thick turnip that he wanted his class to make sculptures from concrete mixed
with asbestos, using the asbestos to make it more modelable.

You could get loose asbestos in lumber yards back then.
So, the air in the sculpture room became a hazy mess -- people
pouring powdered asbestos, mixing it with concrete and water with big paddles.
I was the only one who seemed convinced that there might be a problem,
and moved all my work outdoors and downwind. I often wonder what happened
to the hundreds of people who went through his classes.

Sure!
I used to buy it in a small cardboard w/metal lid to mix with water to
form a paste.
It makes a really great heat sink which one can use when soldering on
jewelry.
I'd pack it around emeralds, garnets, and amethysts, solder quick (I
use oxy/ace) and there's no problems.

The form it was in looked like that stuff you sometimes find inside of
padded envelopes.

I also used to get it in sheets, rolled, about 30cm wide.
I like the powdered better.

Probably something rather similar to what happened to many of my old
colleagues involved in the preparation of the investment material for
the lost-wax casting process. In those days we couldn't even spell
"silicosis", much less worry about it. Several of my friends died -
one even surviving for several years with just one lung...

You need no "gear" for that. Only Mercury and fine powdered gold, to
make the gold amalgam. And a wire brush to apply the amalgam.
