Surplus Coffee Stirrers available at cost by
Cathy Weeks
Hi,
I couldn't find coffee stirrers locally, so I bought them online. The
only drawback is that I had to buy an entire case. Here's where I
bought them:
http://www.instawares.com/Stirrer-Coffee-Wooden.COFFEE.0.7.htm
My total cost was $10.04 plus $7.60 in shipping for a total of $17.64.
That...

I want to try out using the thin wooden Coffee Stirrers as wooden

There has got to be an easier way to do shingles by
Cathy Weeks
I dyed the shingles for the cottage today. The good news is that they
are turning out to be a lovely shade of reddish brown, reminicent of
cedar.
However, it was a horrible job! They only soaked in the dye for a
minute or so, but they stuck together, and I didn't think they'd turn
out well if...

ModelExpo apologies (wasPossible supply source) by
Retiredff
Sorry about the goof for the address. You can get there by either one of
these:
http://www.modelexpoinc.com/
http://www.modelexpo-online.com
The worst part about it was I had a catalog sitting in front of me, and
still got it wrong:)

Shingles at junction of gable and roof by
Cathy Weeks
Shingling is going well. I was worried that I'd find it tedious
(especially after the experience of staining them), but it's rather
zen-like, and I enjoy it, and seeing the progress.
Shingles in the junction of gable and roof are also going fine... My
question is more hypothetical...what's to keep...

Possible supply source by
Retiredff
I get a wooden ship model kit catalog from a company called Model Expo
(www.modelexpo.com). They have a large variety of scale wood dowels, woods
strips, wood sheets, various metal tubing and rods, etc. They have a
decorative metal fittings that would work for picture frames, mirrors, etc.
They...

Miniature Ivy? by
Cathy Weeks
Has anyone ever put a bunch of ivy on the outside of a house? My
searches of most sites turned up wallpaper with ivy patterns or potted
plants, not long vines.
I thought about using dark green wire, but getting tiny leaves to
stick to it seemed like a pain.

Kit or Homeade? by
Jennie
So I am curious, purchased kit or homeade project (with plans or without?)?
I have done both. I did a cheap Greenleaf kit, then built my current
project without plans (tough). I also built my daughter a 'barbie' scale
house that is too tall for her. It was fun and so much easier then the
little...

More copper flashing questions by
Cathy Weeks
Would Victorians have used copper flashing around the base of a stone
chimney? Or would someone in the current times - if they had a
victorian cottage they were restoring - would they use copper flashing
around a stone chimney?
In my web research I've seen lots of photos of flashing around...

painting a paneled door neatly? by
Cathy Weeks
The cottage has a pre-assembled door, which in my opinion, is no
favor. It's got four panels on each side, that have already been glued
down (and tightly, so I can't pop them off). I painted around the
panels, but I have no idea how to get the edges of the panels painted
without ruining the...

Nail holes in hardwood floors? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok... I started on one of the floors with the coffee stirrers. I read
somewhere that you should put two tiny indents at the end of each
board, so that the stain would darken them, and simulate nail holes.
However, I looked at my real hardwood floor, and it doesn't have them.
And the sheets of...

Wallpapering directly to walls or to posterboard first? by
Cathy Weeks
I had an idea about wallpapering - it's going to be difficult working
in such enclosed spaces, (though the gable is done already - I did
that portion prior to assembly - I KNEW I'd never be able to get
inside there) and I was wondering how I was going to hide some of my
(ahem) messy electrical tape...

Printing quilts onto material by
betsyb
I sangged a bunch of quilt photos off a newsgroup and thinking of printing
them onto material. I think in an old dollhouse they would look wonderful
all folded in piles.
Got the printer, got the pics but have no idea how.
