High precision scale or balance? by
Jonathan Sachs
I hope this is an appropriate place to ask for advice on selecting a
milligram scale or balance. It is not for jewelry, but I can't think
of any other likely forums except the ones where dabblers in
controlled substances hang out.
My cats receive several medications that must be prepared (not...

how to fix a necklace with a spuno clasp. by
Joe Arcticacre
I'm hoping you all can help me. I have an old necklace, gold chain,
slightly worn from years of dancing, and attached to many of the links
are small ceramic animals. Not your typical horses or elephants, but
exotic ones like tasmanian tigers or Ibis or nothern grizzly. It is
amazing the detail, a...

Blood stone? by
C Ryman
A lady at work was asking me about a stone cab she liked on her visit to
Mexico. It was listed as a Mexican Blood stone. She said it was very red
with a little bit of veining, a little like turquoise.
The only blood stone I know of is green with red spots. Has anyone heardor
seen something...

Source for unusal larger bails?? by
WillMore
I do fused glass and need a supplier of larger sterling bails that can
glue or clip onto 1/4 thick glass in some way.
Although I use the internet to find the current ones I now order, I was
wondering if anyone knew someone starting out who would be interested in
making them, or had seen a source...

So, here's the (hopefully) next topic of debate by
m3rma1d
What does everyone think about the fact that making jewelry is now becoming
almost as trendy among bored housewives & the like as scrapbooking, and more
& more n00bs each year are showing up in Tucson in Feb. with no CLUE what
they're stepping into?
I've never been to Tucson, but I regretfully...

Help Request: setting small 3mm heart stones by
So Ida, Adios
Hi, all. This is my first post to this group and was referred here by
another silversmith. I have a number of 3mm topaz and want to either
make silver setting for them or, failing that, find a source for
silver heads. I do lapidary and silver work, but my setting have been
limited to bezels on...

A necklace I am proud of :) by
Flic
I have taken up making jewellery recently and have done a couple of
pieces, but the one I created last night I am very proud of. It took
about 5 hours, mainly because I was doing some joins I hadn't done
before and it took me a while to get the hang of it. I would appreciate
it if any body would...

What is going on? How many hidden agendas do we have flying about in the
newsgroup? (How's that for a mixed metaphor!)
A cursory glance would suggest that we are being bombarded by a torrent of
comments, replies and counter replies because someone who made a necklace,
was pleased that they had...

density and castability by
Paul Wilson
I've read that the density of metal alloys is related to castability (the
ability to completely fill a mold). So, gold alloys which are much denser
than silver alloys are more "castable" and will do a better job filling thin
molds completely. Does anyone have any experience with that?
