Magnifier advice by
Felice Friese
As usual, you are all full of all kinds of advice!
Since I already wear glasses for astigmatism, I'm going to pass on high-test
reading glasses and things that clip on to glasses and heads.
BUT with Christmas lists about to be compiled, I think I'll go for (or hint
that someone else go for) the...

Birthday surprise by
Barbara Hass
DH decided to surprise me with a sewing machine for my birthday.
Nothing fancy, but it's a good one. Now I need to learn how to sew....
My first project is going to be a cover for the machine, since it didn't
come with one.
This is on-topic, because someday when I've learned how to use it,...

Framing Frenzy by
Farleyaw
Hi RCTNer's!
WHEW! Have I ever been busy. I've been in my little house a bit over a
year now and have finally decided on where I want certain things to hang.
Professional framing is way too expensive for me to afford - I did break down
and have one piece done, a sampler, as I couldn't get the...

Framing binge by
Linda D.
Hi Victoria,
I'm very impressed you got the 'energy' to do all this
framing, I'm hoping it will rub off on me :) I have a couple of
question for you. Do you manage to find ready made mats and frames
for your designs? or do you get a framer to cut them for you and then
you do the lacing and...

ON TOPIC Wall Street Journal by
Cheryl Isaak
Ok, everyone visit your library, turn to page D7 of Tuesday, November 18 and
read the Pepper..... And Salt comic!
For those you don't have the WSJ at your library:
Woman walks into office holding a frame and tells boss
"She has a most unusual resume - I've never seen one in cross stitch
before."

Blankets by
Fred
A man and a woman who have never met before find themselves in the same
sleeping carriage of a train. After the initial embarrassment, they both
manage to get to sleep; the woman on the lower bunk, the man on the top.
In the middle of the night the man leans over and says, "I'm sorry to
bother...

directions on making a stand-up pillow by
[email protected]
I have a needlepoint gingerbread man that I want to finish off. I
thought about mounting it in a copper cookie cutter, but I can't find
one that will fit the needlepoint.
I have thought about doing it as a stand up pillow, perhaps backed
with gingerbread man cookie material. Are there directions...

need a light by
Boohoo1971
I visit my daughter and would like to be able to do needlework when she is out
or busy. I would like to do the needlework in my hands rather than a frame of
some sort. There is not a good needleworking light in her house, and the best
chair for needlework is not near an outlet. She has a three...

Magnifier advice? by
Felice Friese
OK, here's the situation:
My basic needlework light is an Ott-Lite True Color floor lamp next to my
sewing table.
My basic magnifier is a free-standing BigEye 2x on the table.
They've worked well for years., but now I need more than 2x magnification
and I haven't found a suitable free-standing...

Speaking of framing by
Kathy Tabb
Reading Linda and Shannon's remarks on framing with mats brings
up a question in my mind. I just took a one nite framing/matting
class and it was all very interesting. But the issue of glass
never came up -- probably because the class was aimed at photo
framing. So my question is: do you use mats...

Branching out and trying new things: fabric question by
Chrysta Wilson
I have been lurking for a while (posted a couple of times), and needed
to de-lurk to ask this question...I have been doing my cross stitch
projects on Aida, usually 14 count, ever since I seriously started with
stitching about a year or so ago. I want to try to make the leap into 28
over 2 with...

OT - autograph books by
Cheryl Isaak
Has any one seen one of these around?
DD is seriously getting into collecting autographs from the local AHL team
and I thought if I could find one, it would be great socking stuffer for
her.
Certainly better than getting her jersey signed or those scraps of paper we
are collecting.

hardanger learning advice needed by
Boohoo1971
For quite some time, I've wanted to learn how to work hardanger and have been
looking at the books in Nordic Needle and Amazon. My mind is in a whirl. I
would love suggestions about books, fabrics and thread. I have the very sharp
scissors...that's a start (I hope). I did find the series of...
