Platinum ring markings by
Spivieguy1
I have a mens platinum wedding band with the marking "W_Plat". I have
read that that "pt" or "plat" as well as "900" or "950" would identify
the purity of the ring. However I am baffeled by the "w" in this
marking. Can Anyone clear this up for me?

Setting Stones to jewelry by
Ganesh
There are various methods of setting a stone to a ring or other
ornaments.
E.g. In case of Prong setting there's very little metal that holds the
stone.
Advantage:- the stone is completely exposed.
Disadvantage:- the thin metal holdings eventually loosens often
letting the stone fall, or they...

I have x dwt's of sterling silver.
I want to know how much that weight of sterling will weigh in 14, 18k.
The obvious answer ain't the one I want. ;-)

will only be a 1/2 carat.
I...

Peter's techniques for setting items with prongs by
Patricia A. Swan
Hey, guys.
I've been diving through my archives trying to find a specific post
with directions on setting stones into pronged settings. I'm pretty
positive that it's a Peter Rowe post, but I'm striking out finding it.
The technique has the prongs being progressively brought up from the
sides...
