Softening up linen by
duh who
Yes, washing softens linen but it is a long process. I have a pair of
linen
pants that now are nice and drapey even though they started as fairly
stiff.
You might try washing the linen with some sneakers because they will
"pound"
the fabric while they are together in the washer and dryer....

Alterations and Labor Day Goodies by

I was out on Wed., picking up some repair materials for my Mum's
clothes which she left with me. Nice lined wool slacks and a skirt, a
former purchase; the pants lack slightly over 10 inches meeting in the
front, just over her belly. Every where else, they fit fine. The
protruding stomach is the...

Please help beginner who's broken her sewing machine by
Pat
First of all you are going to have to get all the "wound around" thread
out-----tweezers and time is all it takes.
Be sure you look everywhere for little pieces....they can jam you up
again..........

Sewing buddies in London by

I am returning to sewing after many years. I was looking for a class
to refresh my skills. I cannot find anything locally. I can revise my
skills using books and memory but miss the sharing of ideas that I
used to get from a class. I used to make a lot of my daughters clothes
when she was small....

Singer Touch and Sew II by

None of the cabinet companies are making cabinets to fit the old machines
any longer. The T&S is a special long base so it will not fit in the treadle
cabinet save some handy modifications. I would say look to your local
handyman to repair your old table, modify the treadle or build you a...
