Does any have any experience with the Thomas Stuart Kick Wheel or the Brent

How about kits or plans for building a kick wheel?

Recognize This Mark? by
W
Does anyone recognize the pottery mark in this photo?
http://www.states-street.com/gladding2.jpg
Seller claims it is Gladding McBean, but it really doesn't look like a GMB
piece to me.
Also, what is the best book out there for identifying pottery marks?

Shino Clay Body by
w
Any decent grade porcelain or white stoneware should work fine. Depends on
what you want for a finish when it comes out of the kiln. Your shino is
going to react differently with each clay body. Try one and see if you get
what you like.

Wayne

The latest victory against the spammers by
wayne
Recently, a thread about the spammers had some people
questioning the validity (usefulness) of responding to the spammer's ISP
by typing in "abuse" and sending it back. I did that not three days
ago after the second attempt by those idiots to scam me.
The response I got is printed below.

Ceramic-topped tables by
Wayne G. Dengel
Is anyone in this group familiar with ceramic-topped tables? Rectangular
tables are ususally fired in one or two pieces. Round ones have been known
to be fired/constructed in six pieces.
The base material sometimes is volcanic rock or clay.
Thoughts, comments, whatever will be greatly...

Dry matt barium glaze (Ox ^6-10?) by
wayneinkeywest
Try going to www.digitalfire.com
They have an excellent substitution listing.
Personally, I would stay as far away from that glaze as I could. You don't
mention what cone you are firing to, but considering the toxicity of the two
items (barium and lithium)
perhaps you would be better off using a...

mini wood kiln by
wayneinkeywest
Sarah:
Don't know if this is what you're looking for
but there is a book translated from Japanese
about building a mini-gama (a mini-anagama) fired with charcoal I believe.
It's tabletop sized, and fires like the real thing.
The book is only $14. The information I have is:

kiln paranoia by
wayneinkeywest
Zander, I think you're all set.
The kiln is not much worse heat-wise than a gas stove. At a kiln
building workshop, I was told by the instructor to "think of an
electric kiln as a big toaster."
Made it easier to deal with mentally.
I call mine "Toasty" in honor of that workshop.
Have fun with...

I finally heard back from Waugh Company regarding the jar seals.

Dear Wayne,
We do not have any USA Distributors. If you could find someone to be a
Distributor to your list of Potters, we would be happy to supply our product
which is popular in New Zealand. Cost...

Electric kiln switches by
wayneinkeywest
Does anyone know if it is possible to replace three position
switches in an electric kiln with the infinitely variable type?
Seems it would make ramping and soaking a bit easier.
(No, I haven't called my kiln mfgr yet. Trying for some
background info here first.)
TIA,
Wayne in Key West

reglazing by
Wendy Cyrenne
I glazed a pot at Cone 6, but am not happy with the matte finish. I would
like to put a clear gloss over top and refire the pot. However, I am having
a hard time getting the glaze to cover. I heated the pot in my oven, but
that didn't really work.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to...

Glaze firing by
Wendy Cyrenne
I am a beginner at glazing and firing. I am using an old Cress kiln for
glaze firing and have a few questions that have come up. Hopefully someone
can help me.
When firing to Cone 6, once the temperature is reached how long does it take
the cone to fall over?
In a small Cress kiln (11" x 11" x...
