Air Bubble by
Lindsay MacArthur
I threw a bowl yesterday and last night realized that there was an air
bubble on the outside. I popped it but now that area is thin. If it
fires okay would that spot be a weak point in piece?

Pit fire done by
Stelios Zacharias
Pit fired over the weekend.
Followed all the websites' advice and got a LOT of wood together.
Possibly too much - the pit was still hot enough to roast
chestnuts on the next afternoon, but I am getting ahead of
myself.
So had a lot of wood and made a pit about a foot deep, a foot
wide and two...

Can anyone suggest a method for using burnt horse hair to
decorate pottery? I've seen some people in the western US
do it but I lost any info I had on their methods.

Beowulf
I am a newbie-- what kind of clay do i buy for making plates, soup bowls,
mugs, and such on a throwing wheel, so that the resulting dinnerware can
be fired and glazed for eating on? I have taken some lessons on making
pottery with a wheel, but now I want to buy a wheel and clay; it is
overwhelming...

Load Costs by
Darryl Lentz
Good morning all,
We are doing a cost analysis but are stumped regarding the cost
(electricity) of firing a kiln. We use studio kilns so we can't check the
meter or check the bill.
Could someone in Central Ontario (Canada) give us a hint as to the cost of
running a bisque and a glaze load? ...

Pressing glass, porcelain and metal into pottery by
Hello,
I'm looking for advice about the feasibility of pressing other materials
into greenware before firing and there's a bunch of questions I have.
First, is it possible, or do the different contraction rates make it
impossible? I live close to a beach that my wife and I lovingly call
Tetanus...

Grayson Perry by
Wumpus
Well apparently a potter named Grayson Perry has won an award
in the UK, the Turner award. I found his website (graysonperry.co.uk)
and viewed his work. A news story mentioning the award
had quoted someone saying his work was "deeply disturbing".
All I can say is, if any critic thinks what is on...

Beowulf
As a newbie, I ordered some cone 06 and cone 10 clay. Someone told me
that there is actually cone 6 clay that is not the same as cone 06 -- is
this true and what is the difference? I hope I did not buy the wrong clay!

Bailey Mini-Might slab roller by
Bluehowler
I'm in desperate need of a slab roller - of course the one I really
want is out of my price range, but I was wondering if anyone has had
any experience with the Bailey Mini-Might? It's in my price range,
but I'm afraid it might be too wimpy to bother with. Thanks for...

bailey wheels by
Bluehowler
I've searched the google rec.crafts.pottery for advice on Bailey
wheels. It all seems to be positive, but most of the entries are a
year or two old. Does anyone care to put there two cents in on the
subject again? I'm thinking of the ST100 or ST200 - I'm not sure if I
need 100 lb capacity, but I...

Want to trade 2 elec. kilns by
Tim Gaul
Would anyone like to trade a small used gas kiln for my 2 small electric
kilns. I have a Cress 911X w/ firemate feature and a AIM 64/J ( very
small, but good for doing fused glass jewelry ). I would like to get
something similar to a Olympic Torchbearer 1827G. ( 2 to 3 cubic ft.?)
