A "loud" old elna sewing machine by
~Ann~
I have been given (by a relative) an old Elna Supermatic. Before it had
been placed in storage, it had been serviced. That was a few years ago.
I have carefully followed the instruction manual as to cleaning and
oiling, and have no complaints other than a couple :-).... are these
machines...

A craft is under threat by

I am taking a break from my doodle pad to ask
for some help from you who also love forums, free forums.
There is a crisis happening in alt.binaries.crafts.pictures
where we swap machine embroidery files freely.
Our very quiet nexus of the Internet has been invaded

A delightful surprise by
joy beeson
I pulled on pants and shirt, wondered whether it was
Saturday, and, intending to check the clock on my computer,
opened the sewing-room door -- and exclaimed "Hey! It's
*bright* in here!" With a new coat of snow on the lawn and
the sun low in the east, I could have sewn in here by
natural...

A different kind of Thanksgiving by
Cynthia Spilsted
Hi all:
I just thought I'd share with you my reason for being very thankful on our
American friends' Thanksgiving day. Yesterday afternoon, my baby (yes,
she's almost 15 - but will always be my baby!) did something only a teenager
will do: she saw her friends across the street (downtown!), said...

A Jones Sewing Machine by
Peter Murphy
Sometime ago a friend of mine gave me a Jones portable electric sewing
machine (portable in the sense that it could double as a boat anchor).
The following is stamped on the bottom of the base; JA 58 and 855252 YC. I
imagine the former is the date of manufacture and the latter os the...

a new sewer-help with curtain length shortening by
aces1
I bought already made curtains. I want to shorten them. Any quick
suggestions so that it doesn't look tacky when I finish.
They are tab curtains. They fit the dinning room and the kitchen window is
just 3 feet away but a smaller window length.
Thanks, Chris in MI

a perfect day for sewing by
FtForger
I've been waiting for a day like today...we've got lots of things to do
outside, but we are under severe weather warnings all day today (and
tomorrow and Monday), so today is a designated sewing day. Wish me luck!

A Piece of Paper by
[email protected]
I was fiddling tonight with a sheet of plain ole' notebook paper,
cutting out a pattern for a couple of flared dart inserts (gussets in
another langwedge), when I got to thinkin'. (It's a dangerous thing,
thinkin' is.)
What I was thinkin':
How easy it is to make a pattern for some things. Take a...

A question by

Maureen has inherited cross stitch kit #2313 "Paperwork" from "Design
Works Inc, 170 Wilbur Plains. NY 11716". Has anyone on this list ever
encountered kits from this company?

A question about sewing cotton lycra by
Marisa Cappetta
Hi there, I have a brief question. Are there any tricks for preventing the
edges of cotton lycra from curling? I would like to use it more, it's lovely
to wear, but the way the edges curl makes it tricky to sew/overlock.

assembled the whole thing using some Harriet Hargrave 100% wool

A Sewing Machine For The Workshop by
Too_Many_Tools
On occasion I find myself needing to create items for the home
workshop that require a sewing machine.
I am looking for recommendations in what to look for in a sewing
machine that will handle a number of differnet materials (canvas,
cotton, thin leather)
Any suggestions?
