Tube cutting by
La Stella Celeste
Can anyone offer any suggestions on high-volume tube cutting? I made a jig
and can saw by hand fairly fast, but I have several thousand tubes to cut
and would like to speed up the process. I am cutting aluminum tubing -
3/16". I tried riggng my flexshaft like a small table saw and tried botha...

Determining fair 14K jewelry pricing by
Bill
Hello all
I've enjoyed reading your informative group and I believe I can find
an answer to my question here.
I strive to be an overall educated consumer particularly concerning
high ticket items like 14K and/or diamond jewelry.
I am aware of widespread high markups in the retail jewelry...

New Newsgroup by
Frosty
Please forgive the X-post, but trying to get this new newsgroup
working.
It's not that I don't like your newsgroup, actually its very
interesting.
I just think there oughta be an unmoderated one as well.
It's just the rebel/anarchist in me. :)
Thanx!

Soldering Jump Rings by
Raane
Well, the gas tanks have finally arrived and the "studio" (read
"previously dining room,") is set up, although still missing any type
of bench grinder or rolling mill (and likely a few other things that I
don't even know, yet, that I will need).
While I was waiting for equipment and tools to...

MOVADO Wris****ch ... Real or Fake? by
Scott[_5_]
Hello! I recently purchased a "Movado" wris****ch for a very modest
price at an estate sale, and I was wondering if there are any telltale
ways to distinguish an authentic Movado watch from a potential knock-off
piece from a New York City street vendor.
In particular, the men's watch I have...

gold filled wire by
Diana Jones
I will try this again and be more specific this time.
I need to solder some approximately 12mm jump rings of 16 gauge gold filled
wire. Can this be done? Do I pickle? Can this go in my sterling silver
pickle? Will the flux I use with sterling silver work? What sort of flame
will work and do I...

silver color combination by
m4816k
I'm thinking of getting some jewellery in diferent combinations of silver
color, but I don't know is it worth it. For example, I was thinking of
getting 3 rings, one of which would be of platinum and the other two of
silver (and wearing them together with the platinum one in the middle to
make a...

Polishing compound question by
Andrew Falanga
Hi,
Wow, has it been a long time since I've posted to this NG. My wife
and I are currently cutting a few topaz stones for a client and these
topaz are unlike anything we've ever seen. They are taking a polish
in a most difficult manner and this is forcing us to consider some
alternative...

Why jewelers encourage white gold than platinum? by
Michael
Dear All,
I am wondering why the jewelers that I have been to at least 4, are
recommending with engagement rings that white gold is better than
platinum.
It is very clear that plantinum is the superior metal on the websites
and newsgroups ( durable, last longer, no need for replating). But...

diamond: purchase online? by
sinister
Is it OK to purchase a loose diamond on-line? It seems you'd get a lower
price and greater variety, but the big disadvantage is that you wouldn't be
able to look at the stone. (Of course, presumably, there'd be some time
period during which it could be shipped back...and you'd want someone...

What does "salty" diamond mean? And 11k white gold? by
AuroraeB
What does it mean when a jeweler refers to diamonds in a ring as being "salty"?
Does this mean it is not a real diamond? A poor quality diamond?
I had a ring looked at by a jeweler, to see if it could be sized and if it was
even worth putting the effort into sizing it. It's an old ring purchased...

good vs bad white gold by
HurricaneMB
I've got a white gold engagement ring that I just love. However,
after reading up on white gold after I got it, I'm a bit annoyed. The
way I understand it, in the US, most white gold is made of a nickel
and gold alloy, which is somewhat yellowish, so a rhodium plating is
applied to make it bright...

I don't know how many of you do your own faceting...But I was
wondering if you could offer any insight to a good entry level
