Modern silver goes black, old silver stays white by
Chilla
Hi Guys,
I thought I float this for your thoughts.
My friend has a 10th Century Viking ring... the real deal, not a
replica. After 10 centuries it's just starting to take on yellow hue.
I see modern silver rings that simply go black within a relatively short
time.

Advice for Heavy Bracelet or Watch? by
JeanneP
Hello all,
I'm looking for a good way to get something really heavy on my
left wrist without looking too conspicuous. This would be
something I wear every day, so it would need a versatile look
and be durable, although I could get two such items for different
looks, if I need to. Normally, I just...

rolling then drawing by
Carl West
My rolling mill has the customary series of 90 degree 'v' grooves for
rolling 'square stock'. The bottom of the groove has a flat so that the
final result is a square-ish octagon instead of a square.
That's not a complaint, just an observation.
When I take the resulting wire and begin to draw it...

Good Ultrasonic Cleaner ??? by
Jay Canale
Can anyone recommend a good ultrasonic cleaning solution. I have tried the
ones from Rio, but I am not happy with the results. Seems like the cleaner
has to be very hot to be effective. Also, my hands are starting to show an
allergic reaction to the solution. Any help would be great.

Pictures by
What is a good way of taking jewelry pictures with a digital camera? I can't
seem to get them "nice" enough. I am really picky :o)
My apartment has very bad light so I have been taking the pieces outside and
photographing them on a white sheet of paper. It works better than my older
pictures, which...

Beaded Jewelry by
sdenison
To All;
I am new to posting anything and have read about buying gems and making
jewelry using metal casting and soldering. However, my question has to do
with seed beading.
I have accomplished the Peyote stitch and the brick stitch, and several
others. My question would be how to incorporate...

Selling old 14k gold jewelry by
Kerri
I want to sell all of my 14K gold jewelry. Any recommendations on how
I can get the best price? The only options that I can think of a
1) sell to a jewelry shop that buys gold - they pay based on the
weight. 2) Mail in jewelry buyers - i'm skeptical of these. Any
tips?

reparing 14k v 18k by
Carl West
Most of my gold repairs are on 10k and 14k gold. Usually no problems.
Last night I had a repair/resize on a thin, wide, cast 18k ring. I figured I'd
be polite and use hard solder. I was using a soft brushy flame at a fair
distance trying to bring everything up to temp in an even, gentle manner....

Alloying sterling silver? by
Vanessa Boscia
Hi!
I've just tried to alloy some sterling silver for the first
time. Seems like it should be easy right?
Melted 31.1g of fine silver with 2.5g of 99.95 pure copper (I analyzed it at
work). Both metals were cleaned in acid then washed off in water first.
I'm using a propane / O2 torch and stirred...

Buying Diamond Jewelry: Know What To Look For by
tyo
In judging diamond jewelry it is a common occurrence to get a diamonds
shape and the cut mixed up. The cut of a diamond describes the
performance of light, dimensions, and finish. Shape is just the outline
of the diamond from a top view. In judging diamond jewelry you must
make sure there is a good...
