Weight to Yardage by hesira
Hi Everyone, I have a question. My MIL gifted me with some undyed handspun NZ merino. The yardage is written on the label, but I'm not sure where to begin with the gauge. It's approximately 388 meters and weighs 5 oz. How does one figure the weight to yardage (in this case meterage I guess)...

Its been a while since we were in Israel (Oct.)but better late than never. We had the pleasure of visiting with Mirjam and her husband. We first met them at the Seam Gallery in Megidim as some of Mirjam's works were there. Then we followed their car to Haifa. Mirjam showed me some of her art...

Suggestions needed by spampot[_2_]
Knowing how many UFOs -- well, to be honest, UnStarted Projects (USPs) I have at home, I was VERy virtuous at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival yesterday; only succumbed to a few super-bargains (then I spent $$ on unusual garden plants at the herb-&-plant tent). So what would be a good...

Name that fleece by Vintage Purls
Hi all, You excellent advice is sought. I bought (via online auction) what I thought was a kilo of merino (that's what they called it in the auction description). It arrived today and it's most certainly not merino. I suspect it's English Leicester but I thought I ask you to try identifying...

English combs?? by No Name
OK. The espinner works. That sets up an appetite for combed top. And, that means English Combs. If I am going to be working with fleece from traditional English breeds, such as Cotswold, & Romney: How thick should the teeth of my combs be? How far apart should the teeth be? How many rows?

sizing crochet/knitting thread? by myswendy
Ok, I give up. I'm going all over the internet trying to find a site that explains how thread is sized. I have a cute pattern for a sweater vest for a doll that calls for a particular size, but when I went to the store (without the directions, of course), I got home and discovered I had bought the...

Sunday 5/6 by WoolyGooly
Monster Fake Faeroese is finished, except for ends and a photo op. Weather has been crummy (gray, overcast, humid as hell) so I'm not in a hurry to darn in ends and sweat in a shawl big enough to use as a 4-person tent while my husband fumbles around with the camera. Started a new cardigan for me....

Paton's Evening Belle by Margaret
I got 10 balls of black Evening Belle in a charity shop last week but have been unable to find any patterns for this, or indeed any information at all. I tried knitting a swatch with 5 1/2mm needles (as on band) to see if I could use a Dune pattern (same needles recommended). However, the...

sewing fabric backing to knitting by myswendy
Hi everyone! I'm just completing that rush job of a piano-key scarf. I've decided to back it in black satin. I'm thinking that I can't do it like regular fabric by stitching it inside out and turning because then, I'd have lumpy edges. I am thinking of making my own seam binding out of the same...

Galls for dyestuff by WoolyGooly
Does anyone have some helpful advice for me? One of my wee oak treelings is covered with galls this year. They're already beginning to turn brown (would swear I read the little wasps won't emerge until December!) and DH is making noise as if he's going to cut them away to "improve" the appearance...

Knitting Pleats by CATS
I was asked by a friend for a pattern for a pleated skirt she could knit for her DGD. I remember seeing my mother knit one many MANY years ago for my sister, but I don't seem to have a pattern in my collection of "old stuff". Can anyone here point me to a link that might at least have basic...

Jim's Jumper by Bernadette
Last week I bought the yarn and started a jumper for my son. The pattern I got from the web wasn't any use as it is knitted in Aran yarn/worsted weight (too thick for Texas, he says) so had to get one for double knitting/sportweight. The main body and sleeves are in a variation of fisherman's rib...

changing colors--need help! by myswendy
Help gang! My choir suddenly decided to participate in our church auction with a music-type basket of goodies--of course, I decided to knit a piano-key scarf. BOY do I have to work fast! Due in a week and of course have a zillion other things on my plate. So I'm using size 9 circular needles with...
