Scrap gold by Andy Parker
I have just been given several ounces (nice!) of gold from a 'vapour deposition' system used in a university geology lab. I have no idea if this is pure or what - any suggestions apart from chucking it in my next refining batch (that could be quite a while). This gold has not been deposited, I get...

Plating over real leaves by Peggy
Some years ago my mother purchased a leaf-shaped pin at a local craft fair. She doesn't know what the metal is (looks like oxidized copper to me), but she remembers that it was sold as a real leaf which was metal plated. The pin is a small ivy leaf and is beautiful! Any ideas of what this...

free bead icons by AireSignDesign
An unexpected bonus from the production of 22 large 3D rendered gemstone bead images for use on my commercial site-custom icons. Since the icons were generated automatically by Graphic Converter (unlike the larger originals, which took hours to make) I have gathered them into handy, free...

Good quality watches w/o bands by C Ryman
Any opinions on good quality watches w/o the bands. I have seen a few but I'm not familiar with the brand names (Geneva, Legacy). I don't want cheap poor quality watches or expensive ones. Sort of a happy medium. Thanks -- Connie Ryman Cryman Studio www.eclecticbeadery.com

HOW MUCH DO RUBIES AND EMERALDS COST PER CARAT? by wyatt wyatt
p.s. is there an organization or place that keeps an 'official' (more or less) price of such precious stones such as emeralds and rubies? For the stock market, we have the Dow jones average, but what about precious stones? Thanks.

chain weight question by m4816k
I'd like to buy myself a silver chain, but don't know what weight to go for. Chain would be worn daily, and with a 7 gram pendant (which I already have) on it. I wouldn't like it to be too fragile, but I also wouldn't like it to be too heavy and uncomfortable for everyday wear. Any suggestions?
