fake wod, balsa by
Patrick
Has anyone come across a artificial carving type wood substitute. I've come

I will report back what I learn when I have some in my hand. BTW, it is
used in Detroit to model cars and in the aircraft...

Advice, please: Techniques for painting wood carvings for outdoor exposure by
mb
Hello all...
I'm doing some woodcarvings for outdoor Christmas displays, and
need advice and suggestions on the proper way to prime, seal and paint
these. They're carved from spruce 2x4's glued edge to edge with
waterproof glue, I thought Kilz Exterior would be a good base coat,
but apparently...

Anyone carve concrete or Hypertufa? by

Hypertufa is concrete made with soft materials like vermiculite and
perlite.
Wear a mask. Vermiculite has asbestos in it. Just found that out yesterday.

Carven
Question for all you pros. I am carving a relief face in white
pine. I have a separate piece to add. A large nose. I have
predrilled both pieces and have dowel pieces that allow me to
strongly attach the nose. My question is what glue can I use to
attach that will allow me to continue carving...

Chisels for a beginner by
Wally
I've never done any wood carving before, but I'd like to give it a go. I've
had a couple of lumps of wood lying in my garage for nearly a year, and I'm
now thinking about getting a set of chisels with which to turn said wood
into piles of chips.
I know I should probably spend a small fortune on...

Cheap Carving Tools by
George G
Some potential carvers are strayed away when advanced carvers tell them
NOT to buy cheap carving tools. I bought a set of CHEAP carving tools
and am still using them. I paid $20 for a set of six and $15 for a long
handle straight carving tool. ($35 total) I have spent way more than
that for...

carving a tree stump by
Jim Wild
I work at a golf coarse where we have a large stump 4 feet tall that my
boss wants to have carved into a standing marsh hawk since the name of
the course is marsh hawk. I suppose it would be done with one of these
circular power carvers. My question is, How would I begin to find a
person to do this...

bone carving by
Yes, I want to try some. I've done soapstone and alabaster (much softer) but
I like the texture of the bone carvings I have seen. I thought I'd give it a
try. Chris
