Knitting with the largest Knitting needles - record attempt by Bruce Fletcher (remove dentures to reply)
National Knitting Week 2006 (yes, 2006 - I'm a bit behind the times) Knitting needles 6.5cm (2.6 inches) in diameter and 3.5 meters long (11.4 feet). The yarn was a rope 12mm (0.47 inches) in diameter. And how about crochet with boat hooks or speed knitting (250 stitches in three...

Some one here will have a thought by Cheryl Isaak
On how to re-purpose old sleeping bags...holes worn in the flannel inside and the outer fabric. If I was still camping, I'd mend them. But I'm not. And they're taking up room in my basement that I could really use. I've emailed the local animal shelters, but no response. Cheryl

Life in the country is often interesting... by MelissaD
Nothing sucks more than waking up in the morning and your yard is flooded because there's a tiny hole in the bottom of your well tank and all 220 gallons of water are spraying into your yard. No wait, it definitely sucks more when you realize you can't take a shower or use the...

Latin Translation of "Crazy Quilt" - Redux by Dr. Zachary Smith
First, I extend profuse gratitude to everyone on all three groups (rec.crafts.textiles.quilting, rec.crafts.textiles.needlework, alt.language.latin) who gave their time, effort, and input to my question; it was a great thread. As tizocgringo on alt.language.latin said: I enjoy and appreciate...

Crazy Quilt Help for a Quilter by Tia Mary
Hi Guys, One of the men -- Dr. Zachary Smith aka Doc -- from over at RCTQ (the quilting newsgroup) needs a Latin translation for "crazy quilt". I told him to post his request here because I know we have several Italian stitchers & designers who lurk but don't often post. I wanted to let...

new use for round-neck magnifier by Kalmia
I found it a big help with home manicures. You can apply polish without running it up on the cuticle. Prob. good for pedicures too, if you are pretty limber.

Completely off topic, but I'll bet someone recognizes this cardgame by Cheryl Isaak
Yesterday, my Mom and I tried to remember the rules to a double deck rummy (including jokers) game that we learned in the mid 1970's. Basically, the first deal was 7 cards and you had to get 3 or 4 of a kind to make your first play. The second you needed a run of 4 (2,3,4,5 of hearts for...

Reading is never off topic is it? by Cheryl Isaak
Just finished "The Thirteenth Tale", which I highly recommend to all the Jane Eyre fans out there. Finished about an hour ago, Naameh's Kiss. Same world as her Kushiel's series, but set several generations after. I suspect a few more books to follow. Any one got a few good suggestions? Reading...

OT healthy Guinness by Bruce Fletcher (remove dentures to reply)
The old slogan really was accurate! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3266819.stm However, when a pint in Kirkwall last week cost me 3.30 GBP I don't think I'll be drinking a lot of it -- Bruce Fletcher Stronsay, Orkney UK "My friend had a pet rock, he called it Trelawney"

Limpet stationery supplies July 2009 by Bruce Fletcher (remove dentures to reply)
Julia, There's a lot of colour in the July edition of the Limpet so I need the following items before the August edition which goes to print on 23 August: C5 envelopes (self-seal!) - I use about 60 a month so a box of 1,000 will last for well over a year. "Rapid Standard Staples 26/6" (5,000...

OFF TOPIC = but amusing by Cheryl Isaak
Last night, after showing a friend and his daughter (one of DD's BFF's), my garden in the rain and digging her her own daylily and a quick supper, I drove over to a stitching friend's house for a "Partylite candle party". Still raining and now with lots and lots of wind. (this is important) Give...
