How to disinfect a yellow gold diamond ring I inherited by
Suzie
Hi everyone
I inherited a beautiful diamond ring from my mother last year who
passed away from various things. However the one thing that really
worries me is the MRSA staph infection she had at time of her
passing. She wore the ring right up to the time of her death.
Can anyone tell me how to...

I just picked up some silver solder paste..... by
Jman
and I noticed something very peculiar about this stuff. It looks and
smells EXACTLY like 'high end' silver thermal paste for CPU's !! Has
anyone else noticed this ?
I haven't yet used the stuff to 'actually solder' yet but I'm looking
forward to trying it out. Does anyone have a preference to...

Year of the "S"? by
mbstevens
In my area, the airwaves are saturated
with ads from major jewelry stores
about these little diamond pendants shaped like a
lazy "S" -- these are about the only jewelry ads on TV this
year. The ads are all about the little "S"s sparking passion
in one's mate. My question is, would anyone want a...

gluing organics to metal by
Snaggeltooth
What is the best glue to use to join an organic material like pearls to a
sterling silver post?
Epoxies usually require mixing which is something I really don't want to do
unless there is not an alternative adhesive.
Any brand name adhesives you like better than others for the same...

Silver Blueing by
Jack Schmidling[_2_]
I lost my access to usenet so I kind of lost track of this group.
As some of you may remember, I made some hand forged flatware a few
years ago.
details: http://schmidling.com/silver.htm
We use the knife and fork at dinner every day and it gets washed with
soap and a Scotchbrite sponge so it...

Hardening sterling silver by
Kendall Davies
I understand it is possible to harden sterling silver by heat treating it
over a prolonged period. I would be grateful for any information on
temperature, time and how hard the treated silver is likely to be. I havea
small kiln (max 1000 centigrade) which I could use. Any other information...

Gold plating by
Jack Schmidling
I got some new gold plating solution today and the inside of my wine
glass is now a lovely bright gold. The other solution was obviously
over the hill.
When I sanded and polished the bottom preparatory to plating I notice it
was now a copper color that I thought might have been from the bad...

Drilling brass? by
C Ryman
Hi,
I hope the new year is starting out great for everyone.
My Christmas present from my hubby was the Lucas foot pedal and it is
working out very nicely. Thanks for the recommendations.
I'm trying to drill small holes in 24g brass sheet from Rio Grande. I'm not
having any luck with the small...

Projects by
jenileo
Hello!
I wanted to thank again all the people who offered feedback on my flex
shaft question. I went ahead and ordered a Foredom flex shaft and a
lot of other tools/supplies I think I will need. When my boxes arrived,
I became dazed and confused at all the stuff and signed up for a class
that is...

Mokume Gane materials question by
Greyangel
Hi all! I'm new here. I want to make some Mokume Gane for a project I'm
working on right now and was thinking of using copper and stirling silver.
Is this a workable combination? I read somthing that said annealing
stirling silver too many times will cause it to get brittle through alloy
losses?...

Jewelry for people with severe alergies by
Tom Dempster
I'm looking for something for my wife for our 25th anniversary. She doesn't
wear her gold wedding ring anymore because she is allergic to everything on
the planet, or so it seems, and not surprisingly she developed a skin
reaction to the ring. If it's possible to speculate, what material tends...

Question about jeweler's tools by
R.H.
I bought some tools from the flea market and the seller told me that
he thought that they might be jeweler's tools. I was hoping that
someone here could take a look and maybe identify them for me, I
looked on the web but didn't see anything like them.

RI with microscope by
Jack Schmidling
Learned something interesting about measuring RI with a microscope today....
I tried measuring a CZ cab that I had just finished and came up with 1.32.
I then polished a slice of the material and came up with 2.1.
Moral of the story ( I think) this does not work on lenses, only through a
flat...

Strange CZ? by
Jack Schmidling
I bought two pieces of CZ from a supplier recently, one garnet color and the
other emerald green. The difference in weight between the two pieces was
way out of proportion to the difference in size so I did an SG on them and
got 4.2 for the red and 2.7 for the green.
I checked the RI of the green...
