OT That's one for the big dogs!!!!!!! by
Darla
The Newfoundland, Josh, took BIS at Westminster KC moments ago
(Pacific time, anyway). As a big-dog (Irish Wolfhounds) fancier
myself, I'm lovin' it! It's nice seeing a winner that's bigger than
the cup.

DMC has gone into bankruptcy by
jkwrabbit
Just announced today -- DMC (including all of their floss lines) has
gone into bankruptcy. I imagine a run on most of the needlework
stores just to stock up. Anyone heard anything yet?

Where is everyone?? by
Gill Murray
For the last week or so I have had no more than 10 posts a day here. Has
there been more activity, or is everyone busy stitching instead of
reading newsgroups??

Price check in Aisle 5! by
Tracey
Actually, that's in Hawaii. :P
Okay, so I haven't done an exhaustive search of the island yet but
the only cross stitch fabric I've been able to find so far has all
been of the Aida type and in very limited colors. White, cream, a
shade of tan and black is all I've seen. I have yet to find a...

Historians of Needlework: Help! by
MaryPulver
Is there a good book on the modern history of needlework? In a book I'm
outlining, I need a throw or coverlet from the late fifties/early sixties
stitched with a pattern of Lake Minnetonka. What form might this have taken at
that time? How might it be dated? (I mean in, say color or kind of...

OTIT will be COLD here by
Gillian Murray
They are calling for freezing temps here for the rest of the week, in
the 20s on Saturday morning.Ordinarily, this is no problem, turn over
and go to sleep.
However Thurs, Fri and Sat are the Annual Neighborhood Yard Sales.
Usually 80-90 houses have stuff out.
I have to be up and out around...

Customer etiquette by
CANDY CORRIGAN
Hi Everyone!
Please indulge me just a little. I work in a needlework shop and have just
come home from two really busy days, where classes were being held in the
shop. I have read many a post here about the rudeness of certain shop
owners and hope you will listen to a little bit of it from the...

how do they do it? by
Susan Hartman
How do they do it?
Yesterday I was with DD at an audition (college admission related).
Knowing that I'd be sitting around awhile, of course I brought a little
project, and the waiting time maybe didn't quite fly, but at least
wasn't painful to me. But I was amazed at how many people just...

Copyright Question by
Helen Bartel
I am sure this issue has been thoroughly discussed before, but I am
wondering about the legality of lending magazines to friends to stitch
from, or for them to photocopy patterns from. For many years I had
been searching for a pattern and when a coworker was looking for an
idea for a gift, I...

Bullion wraps by
anne
If I need to cover an area with a knot, I just wrap until the 'coil' is
long to extend between the two points. However, quite often a design
says make a bullion knot with x number of wraps. My problem with this
type of instruction is that I don't know how much of a 'gap' to leave
between the...

Floss Organizing System ?? by
Lucille[_3_]
I know this has been asked and answered a gazillion times, but I'm dense and
I never really paid attention.
I got extremely frustrated this afternoon looking for a certain color of
DMC thread (I never did find it) and I decided it's time to do something
about my messy system.
So what's the...

aprons by

Got this from a friend:
The History of APRONS
FW: The History of Aprons (not a joke)
I don't think our kids know what an apron is.
The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress
underneath. Because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons
than dresses and they used less...

HOORAY! by
Karen C - California
I had a phone call with my stitching friend in the hurricane zone.
She's fine, her house is fine (damp, but drying out). She says she
doesn't need anything herself.
She works for United Way. The office was completely underwater, so
they've lost their computers and paper files, and are operating...

it seems there's a significant population of UK folk here. I suspect
because needlework is a more-established "hobby" (using the word loosely)
there than in the US?
the "Rule Britannia" post got me wondering. Never heard of Crackers until I
became a 'net wanderer. Despite living in London for 2...

OFF TOPIC - mystery solved by

Recently, I've been discovering wet, as in dripping, mugs in the cabinet.
Now, I carefully dry all the glasses and cups before I put them away.
HOW THE HELL ARE THEY GETTING WET????
Yesterday, I watched DS open the cabinet, grab a mug, run the tap, drink
some water and put the mug back in the...
