Big Chunky Pottery Ribs? by Larz Kremer
Does anyone know of a source for large sized fat or chunky wooden or plastic pottery ribs, not ones that are 1/8" to 1/4" in size, but much thicker? I need something like this for finishing the inside of bowls. Any leads would be appreciated! Thanks!

Students with Disdabilities by Hugh Prosser
Hi folks, I teach evening classes for adult students and one of my "regulars", about to return for her fourth term, has Downs Syndrome. Her hand/arm strength and co-ordination does not allow use of the wheel. We have been using molds to make various shaped bowls etc and also different types of...

Extruder Plans by Diego
Hello All: A potter friend and I are looking for plans to make an extruder. Anyone have a plan he/she'd like to share. I have one in my head using pvc pipe and threaded end caps. In one end I'm thinking about inserting a valve and use an air compressor as the method for introducing pressure on...

Foundations by Ted Eisenstein
With some help, I'll be building a woodfired kiln this summer. A lot of books and articles have information on what bricks to use where, design, construction, etc., etc. - _except_ for what the kiln is built on. I presume the usual options are bare dirt, gravel, and a cement pad, but I haven't...

Bee 5 clay by sandi
Hello Everyone, Has anyone had a problem with Bee 5 clay not vitrifing at cone 5? The pieces are glazed and I found that after about an hour the bottoms have become damp. My kiln is a fairly new L&L electric and I fire about two loads a month. I think I will refire at cone 6 and see...

Having trouble with warping trays by CarterDF
I enjoy using slab construction to form trays, but I have problems with serious warping during the cone 6 glaze firing. In my most recent tray disaster I used KPS 222 clay, a brown specked stoneware rated cone 4-8. My slab was just under 3/8" thick when the 17" long tray was finished. I...

looking for a specialty clay recipe by TimR
I have a need to mix some nonhardening clay, as dense and stiff as possible. I've tried google searches and the library without success, and some experiments with clay and vegetable oil, etc., haven't done well either. (They weren't "sticky" enough, I don't know the technical term.) Can anyone...

Paper armature? by Sam
I want to make a little peice by making a cone of paper and painting slip on it. Of course, it cracks while drying. I am trying drying it very slowly, but is there anything else I should try? I can't make it with a roll or cone of clay because of where it is. TIA

tiny kiln questions by Kathryn & Stuart Fields
Was just given a Vcella Kiln, model 9, probably quite old. This is a tiny brick internal, surrounded by iron framing and supposedly good for anything one would want to do -- max is listed as 2300 and the tech said this temperature would be good for many, many hours constant. So, a very...

Coils by Uncle John
I am hand rolling tapering coils. They are about 24 inches long and taper from 2 in to 1/2 in. They are not too bad but it difficult to get an even taper over the whole length as well as being hard to keep parts of it round and not oval. I would appreciate any suggestions Cheers John W
