Glue for Glass top wine goblets? by
Cindy Ginter
I have made several attempts to glue glass tops to my clay body with poor
results. I used two part epoxy, and regular household goop, I made sure the
top of the piece was unglazed (sanded a little for adherence) and still the
tops eventually fell off. I think this is a really cool look, I have...

Anyone use a York Kick Wheel? by
Clayslinger
Hubby and I are driving with the kids down to Florida in February for a
holiday and I have always wanted a York Kick Wheel. Since Axner is in
Florida I figured I'd bring one back with me. The problem is that I am a
part time potter who has not done too much potting lately and hubby is
unconvinced I...

Do you guys have a newsgroup address besides google?? Anyway, about
the kiln I want to tell you what I did and what I wish I had done. I
live in town and know nothing about city ordinances. Have had no
problem there anyway. I...

speaking of goblets by
GaSeku
I would like to make a set of goblets and have not attempted it before. Do any
of you have any tips to share? I assume they have to be made in two pieces, the
cup and then the stem? Thanks all, Gaye

studio vase by
zendy
hi there,
I have a studio vase in a flattened globular shape. The body has
a lovely semi grey high shine glaze - and underneath the glaze are
spectacular iridescent silver flowers or leaves in a spray type
pattern.
Quite an unusual glazing technique and very handsome in its execution.
vase has a...

Shelves for woodfire by
MARY HANDROW
I have been looking at getting some new shelves for a woodfire kiln going to
cone 10, 11, 12 with reduction. I will be using ITC coatings on the
shelves. I have seen that high alumina shelves are not advised for
woodfire, why? The Advancer shelves are very sensitive to any moisture and
cost is...

Question on attaching mug handles by
Beowulf
I am making my first coffee mug. How dry can I let the mug get before
attaching a handle? In other words, what window of time do I have that I
must get the handle attached? Can the mug be leather hard? Or must the
handle be attached soon, within an hour or so of throwing the mug?

should i buy a kiln? by
Beowulf
I have been considering buying a kiln, looking at an Olympic gas kiln;
when I add up all the stuff needed, the $650 (discounted) kiln starts
adding up to $1300-$1400 when pricing in the costs of gloves, pyrometer,
temperature probe, kiln furniture, cones, thermocouple safety shutoff and
firing...

ceramic bird houses by
David Croft
Last night I was watching The Antique's Road Show on
PBS channel and someone had a pot that had a hole in the
side and when I saw it I had the idea of using pottery as
bird houses.
I don't personally want any but I thought it was a good
enough idea I wanted to share it.
You could find someone who...

Air Bubbles by
Lindsay MacArthur
Can air bubbles develop after firing? I have a couple pieces that I
would swear didn't have air bubbles when I pulled them out of the
glost firing but now have air bubbles. Will the air bubbles affect
the strength of the piece?

cone firing by
Stu
I've received 5# of apparently cone 5 white stoneware. There are 3 kilns
available around here. One firing at around 04; another set are usually at
cone 10 with the third being Raku. The cone 10 kilns are good size to large
college class kilns. The bottom line being no access to real cone 5. ...

Refiring by

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows if I can refire a piece that has already
been glazed and fired? I had two different clays in one load. One clay was
cone 5 the other was cone 4-6. I usually do the 4-6 at 6 and love the
results. But since I had the other that can only be fired to 5 I...
