Staining High Fire bases by
Mel Owen
Will using Iron Oxide mixed with water and painted on the foot and base of a
high fire bisque and glazed bowl stick to the kiln at final cone 6 firing? I
want to hide the white of the base.

How much propane? by
Alex S
If I am firing stoneware in a propane kiln of 8 cubic feet (something I am
thinking about) does anyone have a ball park idea of how much propane might
be required per firing?
Sort of related to this, and apologies for going over old ground, I am
interested in the idea of the "greenest" approach...

Ruined Pit Fired Pieces by
Mel Owen
Attended a ceramics class and of course, as we were pit firing it rained
and doused the fire. The results were not pretty! I'm now back home and only
can electric fire. Can I add low fire glaze to the bowls and re-fire them ?

Raku by
Red Deer
Hi Everyone,
I got a portable raku kiln a while back and I haven't been able to get
good results.
I was using a 17 pound propane tank which kept freezing up so I got a
100lb tank yesterday and it just seemed not to get hot enough. I'm
wondering if the kiln is in-
sufficent. It's a Bracker brand....

Kiln wash keeps peeling off by
[email protected]
I am having a heck of a time keeping my kiln wash on my shelves. When
they were new, I covered them, and they went along just fine until I
added another coat after some of the wash came off the way it should,
as in keeping the dripped glaze from sticking to the shelf. I gave
them all a good...

Venturi burners by
Graham Ryan
I've spent some time building raku and cone10 gas fired kilns. In my never
ending quest for finding venturi burners that are versatile and don't cost
an arm and a leg, I located a simple venturi that accepts 3/4 pipe. If
anyone is interested here is the webaddress for the store where i found...

Level rims by
Mel Owen
Please, I'm a real novice with a newly purchased wheel. I now can make a
whole in the center of a 2lb. lump of clay.:) I cannot get a level lip(rim)
on my mugs and bowls. What am I doing wrong? I'm going for a 3 week course
in June and I don't want to be such a complete novice when I get there.

Kiln by
[email protected]
Hi all
My wife has a kiln from Alasdair Kettles at Milnathort, Scotland,
she's had it for about 13 years. Not used for a few years and wants to
get into it again. Trouble is we can't find the operating
instructions, the kiln has two rotary dials one of which has temp
markings and the other says %...

I've been invited to sell my pots at a wine festival in June. I make

Anyone building their own kilns? by

I am trying to get started doing some glass and pottery crafting. I am
having to do it on my own and with the aid of some books. I live 150 mi
from the nearest school with any similar art programs and probably couldn't
afford the tuition if it was next store, we're barely affording keeping the...
