Idle sock question by
spampot
WOW. That sounds way cool, but I think I'll experiment w/toes for a
while first (am knitting DH a pair of wool-hemp mixture socks). I got
several EZ books for my bday, will look up socks when I have a minute.

Those Lithuanian socks from Nancy Bush's Folk Socks book by

....have a striped heel that is so cool. I found myself knitting it
slowly, throwing and twisting the alternating colors, and I found the
stripes of the heel flap went all zigzaggy on my while creating a
beautiful pattern on the reverse of the flap, which of course is on the
inside of the sock...

You won't believe this by
spampot
Anyone here get The Stitchery catalogue? I haven't embroidered for
decades, and I was just about to toss the catalogue in the recycling
when I turned it over and on the back was "Knit Lite." Lighted knitting
needles. Yes!! For a mere $15.95, you can own a pair of plastic
needles (sizes 6,...

Here's that pattern I needed Butterfly for by
spampot
www.ilgaleja.com/collection_summertime_wharf.html
Love the site, love her designs, but the cost of the Butterfly gives me
pause. I'll think about it again once I've finished the two pairs of
socks I started since then!

Trivia by
spampot
Both on and off-topic: We visited the Rug-Hooking Capital of the World
-- Cheticamp on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and saw some truly
amazing concoctions. I'd only seen it done with strips of cloth, but
these people sitting there at frames with balls of yarn attached,
hooking calmly away...

Anyone know why this book is so expensive? by
spampot
My crocheting sister e-mails me that there is a wonderful book in her
library called "The Principles of Knitting" that she has tried to find a
secondhand copy of but only found it going for $225.00 and up! That's
my googling result, too. Does anyone have this book and can it really
be worth...

That hat pattern by
spampot
The longer I work on this entrelac hat, the more fixes I think of. The
ribbed band looks too deep to me (not on Aud's pic, I hasten to add) --
at least the ribbing I've done looks much deeper than the pic on the
pattern. The pattern also doesn't say to fold it over, but that's what
I'll do on the...

Miss Marple knitting by
spampot
Has anyone seen the new Miss Marple TV series with Geraldine McEwan as
Jane Marple? I noticed that the titles to the series start with a ball
of yarn and knitting needles, and I just noticed tonight what and
interesting sweater she was wearing, a sort of oatmeal or beige cardigan
with crossover...

Fascinating cast-on question by
spampot
well, OK, that was a bit of a teaser; I have a question about the
cast-on for my FiberTrends Lace Moebius (which my mother says was called
a fascinator in her day). The pattern calls for casting on 378 sts VERY
LOOSELY. OK, I can manage the VL part by using a larger needle tip (I'm
using my...

No shriek this time, just a heavy sigh by
spampot
....as I get halfway through the cast-on, thinking wow, I really am
casting on loosely, good for me...until I run out of yarn. At this
point I wish I'd taken good ol' Slinky's advice & rewound the friggin
ball of yarn so I could tie the two ends together. Oh well.

Suggestions needed for yarn by
spampot
I'm trying to sort and plan without actually taking up needles or hook,
and I'm looking at a few skeins of cotton-nylon boucle fingering I got
from Ranee's de-stashing. It's dark sage green and I really like the
look, but what will I do with it? The skeins are labeled "The Gourmet
Collection -...

Sunday coffee by

Had mine out on the porch, along with my bacon and eggs, as it's a truly
amazing Indian summer day - sunny, breezy, and 75 degrees! The children
will have a wonderful night for trick-or-treating, especially with the
moon not so far off full. My ambitious husband is sitting out, too,
carving an...

Thank you, Trish! by

Trish,
Thank you so much for the lovely get-well card. The glitter on the tree
branches and the NB return address reminded me that you're probably
getting snow while we're still waiting for the last of our leaves to fall.
I am a little bit better today, so fingers crossed that I'll be able...

Suggestions needed by

Knowing how many UFOs -- well, to be honest, UnStarted Projects (USPs) I
have at home, I was VERy virtuous at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival
yesterday; only succumbed to a few super-bargains (then I spent $$ on
unusual garden plants at the herb-&-plant tent). So what would be a

Sigh... by

Well, the Stitches East 2007 brochure arrived in yesterday's mail, and
by the time I sat down at the computer to register, only an hour later,
half the classes I wanted were already sold out! I expected the Lily
Chin ones to be, but jeez. I finally managed to snag ONE Friday
afternoon class. ...

....Addi needles for lace? I thought I saw a mention of it but can't
find it (that may of course be due to the migraine drugs). I ask

what needles I...

Totally, perhaps annoyingly, OT! question for Brits by
spampot[_2_]
So, Mary F & I finally stopped gabbing about Yorkshire, and lo & behold
I have another question that I figure the variety of folks here might be
able to shed some light on.
First of all, if you haven't heard of the Monty Pythons referring to
little old ladies as "pepperpots," you can stop...
