carving egg shell - any hints? by
Mary Irene
I am interested in carving (or cutting out) delicate filigree patterns
from whole egg shells (chicken and goose eggs) Does anyone out
there know what tool or tools to use for this purpose?
I have seen a large industrial type machine that will do this; does
this kind of tool exist in a hand-held...

Sorby or Pfeil? by
[email protected]
Which brand of chisel do you like better and why? I like the way Sorby
chisels are made & look. I like the long blades and the way the handles
are constructed and shaped. Pfeil looks kind of chintzy. They have
shorter blades and simpler handles. Is there any advantage in having a
shorter blade? I...

beautiful carved wood . . . by
patrick
In case any of you have not seen it, go to the
alt.binaries.pictures.woodworking channel and look at the post from Mike
Hide titled "finished bench." It is a series of pictures of the carved legs
on a table that he made. Very good quality and carved workmanship.

Japanese chisels in Grizzly catalog by
[email protected]
I saw in the Grizzly catalog a set of 12 japanese carving chisels for
$40. I also saw a set of 12 Grizzly brand carving chisels for $60. How
good are these? Seems like they could be better than the $10 sets of
chinese chisels but less expensive than the famous name brands.

wet wood carving by
[email protected]
I carve mostly Wallnut, I have found that if it is dry it is best left
dry. If it is green or "wet" then I keep it that way till I get as much
stress out of the block as possable by carving it down to near
finished.
