Another New Member by
Kirk Robinson
Hello All,
I'm new to the group but have been making jewelry for a few years. I work,
preferably, with silver and precious/semi-precious stones but am dragooned
into making pearl jewelry by my wife most of the time. I hope to mine the
group for info and will occationally salt the mine with a few...

Projects by
jenileo
Hello!
I wanted to thank again all the people who offered feedback on my flex
shaft question. I went ahead and ordered a Foredom flex shaft and a
lot of other tools/supplies I think I will need. When my boxes arrived,
I became dazed and confused at all the stuff and signed up for a class
that is...

how to... by

....make a pendant slide more nicely on a chain, or to rephrase, which chain
style would be more suitable for a heavier pendant (now I have a curb chain
which causes my pendant to sometimes "catch" links and falter) - besides
box, snake (cable), omega, rope, loop (belcher), pewter (ball)...?...

Moonstone vs. Labradorite by
Judy Shaw
The best way to consider the two stones is that they are fraternal twins.
That is, they are both members of the Feldspar group. Moonstone has a
luminescence to it. Labradorite has more of a flash of color when it is
rotated in a light source.

Where do I stand? by
John
Hi all
I've got a bit of a problem concerning the old Millennium mark. A customer
had his Millennium wedding rings stolen and obviously wants to replace them
'exactly' as they were, with the stamp on the outside of the rings. Now, at
first, I thought that this wouldn't be a problem, and said "yes,...

Legal position in describing imported gold jewellery in UK ? by
puk
Hi Folks,
I've read a thread in this group a while ago regarding the legality of
describing gold jewellery as 'gold' in the UK if the item is not hallmarked.
Does this mean that if I were to import gold jewellery pieces from abroad
(countries who do not need to hallmark stamp them), would it be...

[ADVERT] Raytech CMF-400 magnetic finisher for sale by
[email protected]
I have a Raytech CMF-400 magnetic finisher that I'd like to sell. I
hardly got any use out of it, so I thought I'd see if anyone in this
group wants it before I put it up on ebay. This is the smallest of
Raytech's top of the line finishers. Polishes a dozen rings or other
small items in around a...

Paste/glass stones by
Manic Poster
Hi guys,
Does anyone know where I can got hold of the little paste/glass stones used
in jewellery (especially brooches) in the UK?
They come in sizes from pin head to fingernail, I've got some repairs to do

Irradiated stones?? by
[email protected]
I bought a blue topaz online at Ice.com and it's amazingly blue.
I was told that most Blue Topaz is usually irradiated? Is this true?
What about stones like Peridot, Amethyst, or Moonstone?
(Particularly those in jewelry made in Nepal, etc for instance? )
This practice seems a bit unhealthy to...

confused by
m4816k
I know gold/silver filled (overlayed) items wear out (or wear off if you
want) over time. Of course, reason is a loss of material due to wear,
scratching etc. But, as I read online, platinum doesen't wear in such way
(instead of "falling off", scratch material is pushed aside or inside),...

info on old lapidary equipment needed by
big head
Hi, I'm new to the group and lapidary as well. I picked up some old
tumblers and what I guess is a flat lapping tool. One of the tumblers
is pretty big, the drum is 9" in diameter and 12" long. It is 10 sided
and rubber lined. The name on it is craft tools. Its pretty old
looking, but hasnt been...

large purses by

I love large purses, large enough to carry everything I need. I would
like to know how I could design my own specialty purses. If I could get
some ideas and maybe some tips, that would be great.

How to safely clean titanium druzy quartz? by
mjoann
Hello,
I have found information online about cleaning regular drusy quartz, but
I can't find anything trustworthy about cleaning titanium coated quartz.
I have a gorgeous item with tiny crystals that are completely coated.
What is a safe way to clean this stone?
Thanks in advance!

Hinges, Silver by
Will
Anyone know where to find silver hinges suitable for small jewelry boxes?
Would prefer to buy "off the shelf" from someone who supplies them on a
regular basis and has made lots of them. (A silversmith told me they are
a PITA to make and take practice -- for whatever it's worth..)
I want to use...
