Need help for a relative beginner on polishing silver with a
flex-shaft.
I don't have a full sized buffing/polishing wheel so I have been using
a flex-shaft with 1 inch dia. felt and muslin wheels using tripoli and
rouge. I have not been satisfied with the results. I am looking for
some detailed...

black onyx source request by
fred (remove underscores, add . )
Hello, all and happy holidays.
I have scanned these newsgroups and I think this may be the right place to
ask this question. I am in need of a single black onyx "marble" of 5/16"
diameter. As I understand from my research, black onyx is really brown onyx
which has been dyed. I have the one...

friction by
m4816k
Sometime ago I had a 14K gold chain, and I've put an 18K gold pendant on it.
It wasn't long before the chain started breaking (frequently). A few days
ago I've read one online article which stated that wearing pendants on
chains of another caratage (than the one of pendants) causes friction...

Sterling or Fine Silver? by
Jenny
Does anyone know how to tell the difference between sterling silver &
fine silver?
I have a bunch of sheet & wire that's pretty old, with fine & sterling
silver mixed.
Is there a heating/color change/soldering type trick to tell which is
which?
Much Thanks!

fluorescent amber by
S.A.Smitherman
Years ago I purchased a large amber pendant called "fluorescent amber". =
It
was called this because when you put the piece in sunlight or under
fluorescent lights, it would take on a bluish cast like opalescent glass
does. However, over the years it has lost some of its fluorescent =
quality.

Faceting by
Jack Schmidling
After browsing the web for an hour, I think I understand how gems are
faceted but not clear on how one gets from there to polished facets.
Is the process just repeated with finer grits or am I missing
something?

Tin - antiquing by
Arashikage
I recently got a piece of tin jewlery - a Thor's Hammer to be exact, but =
I
find the finsih to be a little too shiny.
I was wondering if anyone knew a way, chemically or otherwise, to oxidize=
or
in some other way taint the surface and make the tin-piece appear =
"older".

Bought custom jewelry from DeSignet? by
Robert
I'm thinking of purchasing custom wedding bands from a jeweler I've
found on the internet, DeSignet International (www.raru.com or
www.customceltic.com) The testimonials on their site are great, but
I've only found a couple references to them in google groups. I was
wondering if anyone out there...

Unique Spoon Ring *Please Help!* by
J. Fehrenbach
My girlfriend bought a really unique spoon ring from a homeless man in
San Francisco that was actually made from the "bowl" portion of the
spoon to make a really wide full-digit ring. She had the ring for a
long time, absolutely loved it, and I don't think she ever left home
without putting it...

Pripp's Flux by
Jenny
Is the "Prip's Flux" which is comercially available (made by Grobet)
the same chemical composition as the recipe which Peter Rowe has on
the "United Artworks-Techniques of Jewelry" website?
Also, has anyone tried using the "Misto" olive oil sprayer to apply
Pripp's?
I just bought one, thinking it...
