Sewing Silk by
Woolstitcher
Hi, :)
I'm a fairly decent sewer, I have sewn everything from market bags to
complicated garments, however, I have never sewn with silk. A friend gave
me a small bag of 100% silk ends and left overs. I thought I could piece
them together to make the lining of a wool scarf. (I'm thinking that...

Blanket stitch (handmade or machine-made) by
Betty Vereen Hill
In my meanderings on eBay, I've found numerous handmade tote bags which are
decorated with blanket stitches. In each instance, the stitching is so
perfect that one wonders if it is done by hand or machine, but I am not
aware of a sewing machine capable of producing blanket stitches, and...

My hobby is machine embroidery and home decoration, especially french

Recently, I proposed my embroideries on linen, on a website,
especially monograms of old style :

Got a Husqevarna! by
ant[_2_]
I went to Sew Simple in Philip, Canberra, that someone recommended last
week. Heaps of 2nd hand machines, but ended up going with a
mildly-computerised husquevarna. They reckoned it's easy to use, and it
didn't have heaps of embroidry stiches (didn't want that stuff). They're
servicing it now...

ultra-cheap fabric needed by
[email protected]
I'm teach a dance team, and our theme this season is Mummies. We have
NO budget for costumes, so we need a super-cheap fabric to create the
mummy wrapping. I was thinking of cheap muslin (I've seen it as low as
$.39 per yard) but I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas.
What would be the...

Favorite Pattern Company? by
dogmom
Hi. I'm getting back to sewing dresses and such as I (hopefully) become a
teacher again. It's been about 10 years since I sewed clothes. (Made a bunch
of quilt with the scraps from them, tho'!) I mostly used Simplicity patterns
but increasingly McCall's appeal to me. Which company (s) do y'all...

Where I am really unsure of this (without having the parts in my hands)
is in attaching the collar to the body. Maybe it will be clear once I
get to that part, but any comments any of you have will be appreciated.

Looking for Double-Sided Quilted Fabric by
Gennie
Hi,
I just found this newsgroup. I've just made my first quilted handbag (with
matching cosmetic bag of course) and am hooked! I got my double-sided
quilted fabric at Joann Etc. and that one design was all they had. Does
anybody know of a source for the pretty "Vera Bradley" type of...

Dead Machine Revived by

"AAat's right, gave it a little mouth-to-mouth, and it came right

My first Singer Futura, which was new in 1976, and which, I thought,
finally died from over-use; I had reluctantly shelved it about 10 years

I am impressed too, Cea..........I can hardly wait until my
nearly-6-year-old can start. She "assists" now, and is beginning to
understand machine threading .....and keeping hands away from needles and
other things......but I am looking forward to her doing a simple project in
the not too far...

Shot fabric by
duh who
Not much out there on shot fabric. I find a little. I'd also be looking at
something of shirting quality, little thicker than maybe quilting needs.
Anybody know any sources? I was looking at Portsmouth Fabrics, but their
website is broken when you try to look at the detail of a fabric.

Getting Daring by
duh who
I've been fooling around with extending the yoke on some shirts because I
thought it looked "sportier". However, I have a tendency to get some
tension across the backs of my shirts because I have broad shoulders,
extended yoke or not. I decide to go another route.
I was inspired by something in...

A Piece of Paper by

How easy it is to make a pattern for some things. Take a...
