Floss usage experiment. Suggestions. by
F.James Cripwell
There are three sets of numbers which I require to be reported.
These are the number of stitches per inch you used and the number
of threads in the needle; plus the amount of floss of each colour you
used to do the cross stitching. I suggest you do all the cross stitching
first, and measure how...

Floss usage experiment. Symbol count. by
F.James Cripwell
I have done a symbol count of Cherub with Tree as best I can.
I am sure the results are not accurate down to the last symbol.
But they should be good enough for the purposes of this little
experiment. However, if anyone else cares to do a count, we could
compare figures, and try and come to some...

Trebizond silk & VS Sweet Pea Gazebo by
Laury Walkey
I finally received the Trebizond silk needed to finish the Sweet Pea
Gazebo sampler I started in June. I happily stitched along for a good
two hours with one length before it occurred to me that it seemed
awfully thick to also be used for the Smyrna crosses over 4 and regular
cross stitches over...

Waste Canvas vs. Linen by
Suzanne
In a recent post, Ruthie mentioned using waste canvas to stitch a
shirt. Has anyone tried using linen instead? In a XS magazine I read
a while back (The Cross Stitcher, I think), they had an article about
how linen was so much easier than waste canvas. It seemed simple
enough from the...

Looking for a LNS in Connecticut by
PennyLeeD2
My favorite LNS (Hook 'N Needle in Westport, CT) has closed. Does anyone
know of another shop in CT or NY that is accessible by train? I don't drive,
and I keep finding about shops in places that I can't get to at all. We do
have JoAnn's, Michaels, etc., but I'm looking for specialty threads...

Myreschka embroidery by
Yvette
I did the first part of a two day course today at my local guild on
Myreschka embroidery. Always wanting to know the traditions behind
these sorts of things, I asked the teacher if it was traditionally
worked in white on white or in colour. She didn't know the answer.
Does anyone here know...

Scanning pictures for charts by
Fred
I have a rather simple question.
What resolution has been found the best for scanning pictures for charts? It
would appear to me that if one scans at a high rate of resolution that one
can contaminate the chart with a lot of non essential confetti stitches.
Pictures are made up of colored dots...
