elasitc (spandex) in socks too tight by mike
Many of the men's socks I buy have such tight elastic that it causes serious damage to my legs. I presume these are no longer made with old fashioned elastic but with spandex as all the new things are. Does anyone know a way to permanently stretch the ribbed part with the spandex so that it will...

Help! I used Stitch Witchery to add a border on a skirt, which I have subsequently removed from the skirt. The inside hem now has leftover Stitch Witchery all over it, which has generated giant snags in my brand new pantyhose! How on earth do I remove this stuff??? Thanks! gouda

Has anyone ever MacGyvered way to have regular sewing machine hold thread cone? by Craftsy
A couple of years ago or so, I saw a sale for cones of thread at a very good price so I bought a couple. I've since never been able to figure out how to use them on my regular sewing machine. When I went around Xmas to fabric store, they told me that those were for sergers and that I couldn't use...

Altering a mens dress shirt by Mike
Hello All~ I was just curious - I have quite a few dress shirts that are a tad too big on me - but I still like the shirts. I was just curious as to how easy it would be to alter them into a size that fits me better - i.e. altering one from a 16 down to a 15 - I'm mainly just concerned with the...

Tape for keeping skirts and pants from slipping down? by Martin
They used to have a tape that had a rubber stitched face which was sewed or glued to the inside waistband of skirts and pants to keep them from slipping down. It was not the kind of elastic tape that stretches. Would anyone know what that tape was called and where I could get some, perhaps...

I have just seen an advert for the Brother e touch embroiderer and would like others opinions on it. I already have a sewing machine which I love and don't really want to change it but at the same time would like to be able to do embroidery. The great selling point in the ad I saw was the Winnie...

Anyone have a source for men's thimbles? by BEI Design
I've googled, but everything I have found so far has been in women's sizes S-M-L or 0 up to 7. I have large hands and I wear a 7, it would be too small for my new SIL, who wants a large man's thimble, I'd like to find him both a metal and a leather one. Anyone??? TIA, --

9/11, sewing, and off topic thoughts by Tom Farrell
And so another 9/11 has come and gone. 9/11/2001 began in confusion for me. I was recently unemployed, had been up late, and overslept. I was awakened by my neighbor knocking on my door. I grabbed my keys and stumbled blearily to the door, where he told me two jetliners had flown into the World...

I doubt she is going to be doing a lot of sewing over there, but she does split seams, rip pockets, and tear out hems a lot, and she might sew a skirt or two...
