Haven't sewn in years. by
I am looking forward to getting back into sewing and crocheting after I finish school. I used to sew from patterns, just for myself. Is the tracing wheel still being used and anything else new?

Quality ironing board cover by
Me again :) I am looking to replace the ironing board cover that came with my ironing board. I bought the board because it was the best construction- but the manufacturer cut corners with the cover. What should I look for to know that it is a good quality? I will not sew one, and I do not want...

Pressing of Cotton/ Spandex Blends by
Hi, I have just received new uniform shirts that I must keep pressed. They are 98% cotton and 2% spandex. I have heard that you shouldn't use starch on this fabric. Would sizing be ok? The care label says to use a warm iron if needed- but that isn't getting the wrinkles out. Any suggestions...

I have a copy of the Mansfield & Hillhouse pattern design book on ebay. The auction closes in *less than 24 hours*. Obviously, I put it in the wrong place because the current bid is only $20. The item number is 3577625763. I am auctioning (ebay) a copy of that rare men's tailoring and drafting...

Help with window treatments! by -dlm.
Hello! I am having difficulty with a home-decorating project that I started. I purchased 100% cotton drapes from IKEA. Because they are too casual for my needs, I thought that it would be fairly simple to turn these inexpensive tab-top curtains into custom window treatments by adding a lining and...

Can off-the-rack clothes be tailored? by 2obvious
I was watching an "X-treme Makeovers" rerun last night, and I saw a stylist advising a guy to have his tie-dyed T-shirts tailored. I'd never considered this possibility, but now that it's in my head... I wear a lot of T-shirts (very few button-up shirts). I'm willing to invest the time and...

beginning serger: brother vs. singer vs. white by Aay P.-M.
Hello everyone... I'm going to buy my first serger and have a pretty tight budget so I narrowed my choices down to a factory-refurbished Brother 1034D and Singer 14SH654. I've found both for about $200 including shipping. A lot of online reviews & consumer reports seem to say that specific Brother...

a new sewer-help with curtain length shortening by aces1
I bought already made curtains. I want to shorten them. Any quick suggestions so that it doesn't look tacky when I finish. They are tab curtains. They fit the dinning room and the kitchen window is just 3 feet away but a smaller window length. Thanks, Chris in MI

Source for thick decorative felt by [email protected]
I'm looking for a source for thick felt I can use to make covers -- or perhaps cozies -- for personal electronics like digital cameras and laptops. I think the ideal thickness range is 3/16" - 3/8". All I have been able to locate on the web are industrial felts, which are thick but none too...
