Blanket hem stitch??? by Claude Davis
My wife loves to make make blankets from heavy fleece material. She stitches around all four sides with yarn for a border. In doing this, she pulls the entire 50 feet or so of yarn thru the first stitch, then thru 2nd, etc. I'm positive there must be some method of hand stitching a border...

Blanket stitch (handmade or machine-made) by Betty Vereen Hill
In my meanderings on eBay, I've found numerous handmade tote bags which are decorated with blanket stitches. In each instance, the stitching is so perfect that one wonders if it is done by hand or machine, but I am not aware of a sewing machine capable of producing blanket stitches, and...

Body abuse in fashion by Betsy Ross
Throughout history, women have had their breasts lifted up, pointed out, pushed down , in, together and apart. Women's waists and hips have been similarly manipulated. With the exception of padding cod pieces, have men EVER been put through so much to artificially change the body shape?

Bogie Shirt Pattern -- is there one? by Sherri
Hello, I am trying to find a pattern to make the shirt worn by Humphry Bogart in The African Queen. I've googled for it and searched this list, but haven't found a reference. Does anyone have a lead to a specific pattern for that shirt? Or the name of the style of shirt? Thanks for any leads,

Hi, its me again.. the occasional lurker. waves to Kate and Cea and others who linger in RCTQ as well. Having made the decision to take the plunge and buy a serger I thought that it might be nice to know all the things that it can do for me and my sewing. Book reviews are nice, and I could wade...

Boston area sewing get-togethers, and sewing for charity by [email protected]
Hi folks, Some of you who have been around for a while may recall the Boston area sewing "crawls" I used to throw, at which we'd get together at a fabric store, proceed to a nearby restaurant for a social lunch, and then shop our way through other local fabric stores. Lately, I've been feeling...

Bra and Swimwear Sewing by Lisa Merriman
I have an odd question, but I hope someone can answer it. I am an unusual size, so I require custom-made swimwear, and find it extremely difficult to buy a bra. I'm wondering if I should try and make my own swimwear (and bras), instead of paying so much money to have them made for me. But... I've...

bra-making fabric store in East Bay? by wurstergirl
Does anyone remember there having been a store in the San Francisco Bay Area East Bay that specialized in fabrics and supplies for bra-making? I remember one having been in the Alameda/Emeryville or maybe San Leandro kind of area, but can't find it in the yellow pages. Thx, Pora
