29 Potters Drowned!! by
Horatio
It's true: it happened in 1799 near the Coalport factory and kilns.
The whole story is told in a long, sad poem in the book "Coalport:
1750-1950" by the famous novelist, Compton Mackenzie.
As a result of an estate sale, I have been asked to auction some books
from a private library, including...

fix glaze that isn't absorbed by bisque ware by
Janet Price
Hi,
I usually make my own glazes for cone 6 but had some low fire clay I'd
used for several bowls and purchased a low fire spectrum glaze. It's an
odd consistency--sort of sticky and gooey like thick paint and the pots
just don't absorb it well when I dip them and take way too long to dry.
It's...

Dinnerware set by
Diego
Hello All:
I learned to make plates last week. I'm now curious
what each of you who make dinnerware sets include.
Salad plate, dinner plate, saucer, cup, etc? What
standard accessories could go with it? Gravy dispenser,
etc.?

change bisque temp by
Lindsay MacArthur
I currently bisque to ^04 but would like to try ^05 to see if the
glazes absorb better. Is there any risk in me doing this on a real
batch or should I try it with some test stuff first?

Fun with Texture by
Lindsay MacArthur
I mainly make functional stoneware pieces fired to ^6 in an electric
kiln. I want to experiment with some fun textering and embedding and
was looking for ideas. For example, I know a potter who occasionally
fires some pieces wrapped in gauze and has even done a couple of
pieces where she wrapped...

Pottery in London by
Nancy Albin
My posting of last week seems to have gotten lost. So here's a shorter
version.
I'm looking for a "guest artist" shared studio situation in London near
Camden for June and July. I would love to have a small showing of my
work in the UK too.
Some people there already collect my work
A very kind...

Glaze settling in bucket by
sandi
Hello Everyone,
One bucket of my glaze always gets hard in the bottom of the bucket. I
heard about Epsom's salts mixed with it might help so I mixed a half a cup
of Epsom's salt into it and it made it almost as thick as cake batter. Can
I just add some water until it thins enough?
Thanks
Sandi

Can you file or sand clay to get an exact size after the first firing?
IOW, will it shrink more during the second firing?

Hi All
Looks like there is a good possibility, finally of my going to London
when my budding actress daughter goes to do her theatre internship. We
will most likely rent a temporary flat. So I'm looking for a "visiting
potter" situation. A very nice potter in Glouchester offered a spot in

How is the best way to attach sprigs so that the edges blend in with the pot
