Question regarding printed patterns by
Frosty772
I have spent some time looking over patterns (diagrams) from the 19th century.
Looking at how they were made and the fact that ladies HAD to convert (draft)
the given pieces based on their own measurments ensured a proper fit. (How the
heck do you do that anyways?? For the life of me I cant figure...

Shirt front plackets, was collar question by
Kay Lancaster
Much snipping for change of topic...
The major difference between home sewing methods of shirt construction
and factory methods lies in the construction of the front plackets (home
sewing patterns typically use a separate, sewn-on band -- rtw plackets
are cut-on, interfaced and turned...

permanent crease in knit collars by
Rudy
Why do all my knit cotton collars develop a permanant crease in them
after a few washings? It sure is annoying as most of the time I look
like a slept in the shirt, anything that can be done to remove it, I
try ironing but these are in permanantly. Seems to happen to every
name brand I...

newbie question by
Plissken
(posted to other groups but not x-posted)
I have just purchased my first sewing machine and am going to learn how to
sew. I bought an old (1968) sewing machine in mint condition (just needs a
little "tune up") from a lady who hasn't used it in years (she even gave me
the original owner's manual!)....

Posted to another n/g - reposted here.. Help with tensions please by
AmazeR
When I adjust the bobbin tension to the instruction manual on my Bernina
1000 the top tension has to be set at 9 on the dial in order to sew
normally. Normal top tension setting is 5. How do I reset the top
tension so that it is set on 5 for normal sewing?
Background information: I recently...

Maisie
Newbie here - looking to be more environmentally friendly this year and sew
my own shopping bags instead of using the plastic bags provided by the

Fitting nightmare by
BEI Design
I am currently fitting a gal whose high bust measurement is 40.5",
bust 48.5", waist 40", and hip 43", back to waist 17.75". That's not
a mistake, her hips are only _three_ inches larger than her waist. No
fanny, at all! She was _very_ surprised to learn that her right arm,
shoulder to wrist is...
