Online supplies by
SteveB[_2_]
I need a supply of pre wound bobbins, needles, thread, etc. Is there a good
site on the Internet where I can buy these things at a savings, or is it
just as good to go to the local supplier?

Getting old machine out of the shed by
SteveB[_3_]
I bought a used 1957 Singer 111 w 155 about a year ago to do some canvas
awning work. It's time to get it out and see if and how it works. I
downloaded the manual, crude as it did come across. Anyone know where I can
get a really clear one?
What would be a good combination of thread, needle,...

Canvas and other awning ideas by
SteveB[_3_]
I have been out of the awning market for some time now. When I first
started, I went to Disneyland, and found all manner of awnings and ideas for
fastening them to frames, many of which I brought back to Las Vegas, and put
me in the forefront of awning makers in Vegas for years.
Now, today, I...

Anyone have a Singer 111W155? by
SteveB[_4_]
Got a couple of particular questions for you if you do have one, or are
familiar with them. I'm getting mine running but having a couple of simple
(hope so) glitches so far.

Little help, please by
SteveB[_4_]
I have a 1957 Singer 111W155 walking foot machine with cabinet and
everything but the light.
First question, where can I get a light? Or will I just have to put one
together from pieces and parts from another machine. It would be nice to
have the original.
I downloaded the manual, and after...

Canvas thread by
SteveB[_4_]
I'm getting ready to play around with my walking foot Singer to make some
awnings. What kind of thread should I get? I want strong, and UV
resistant. Is this something available at a local store? Maybe an
upholsterer's supply? There's one in Vegas near where I live. Or can I get
it online...

Oils by
SteveB[_6_]
I dug my Singer 111W155 out yesterday, and am pressing it into service.
When reading the manual, it has several lubricants listed, most of which
would probably be hard to find. I haven't looked yet at the sewing machine
or fabric stores.
Is there a big difference between oils, say like Singer,...

Need Internet Source for awning supplies by
SteveB[_6_]
What's a good Internet supplier of Singer 111W155 needles, heavy UV
resistant thread for outdoor awnings, and sewing machine lubricants?
And what is a good source for awning supplies? I like Sunbrella and have
their sample book, but am open to equals. Anyone know a source for edging,
aluminum...

Rope Pull? by
SteveB[_7_]
Anyone know where I can get aluminum rope pull strips? You sew in a round
cord on canvas, then thread the sewn canvas and cord through the aluminum
extrusion. The extrusion has been fastened to something solid, and this
gives you a starting point of attachment for the canvas on an awning. Is...

Grommets and edging questions by
SteveB[_7_]
I am repairing a pretty good shadecloth I had custom made about five years
ago. The thread detereriorated, and the edging and some grommets pulled
out. I was able to repair some of it by using some new cloth. But on the
corner grommets, three pulled out completely, and the edging and cloth is...

Walking foot report by
SteveB[_7_]
Have a Singer 111W155 walking foot that I've been putzing around with.
Brought in a large sunshade to fix, and it worked pretty good. I still need
to get a local mechanic to fine tune it, but it runs good, and I'm learning.
Now to get started on the awning frames before summer. Will post pics...

singer walking foot answers and questions by
SteveB[_7_]
I found out one of the problems I was having. When finished sewing, I'd
pull out the material, and three threads would come out the bottom. A local
who contacted me said to rotate the needle just past top, and it would come
out cleanly. It works.
Now, is there a disengage for when you wind...

Foams by
SteveB[_8_]
I want to make a bench seat for a boat. I want to cover it with Sunbrella.
Just put piping around the edge, and wrap the canvas around the foam and
staple it under the plywood base. What type of foam would be best to use
for outdoor application. No direct sunshine, but lots of heat, and...

Stubby screwdriver by
Stumpy
I've been breaking needles and creating bird's nests under the needle plate.
It takes me a while to unscrew the needleplate with the supplied flat Singer
screwdriver. Has anyone found a driver short enough to fit under the
housing that you can spin instead of having to change your grip?
This...

Singer 4411HD advice by
Stumpy[_2_]
This is a very inexpensive machine, only $120 on Amazon, and the manual is
weak.
I'm teaching myself to do some work and having a hard time. It doesn't work
very well when I freehand attaching straps to fabric - can't make the fabric
feed sideways. Is making multiple "buttonholes" a good...
