Good "learning to knit" book? by
BonnieBlue
My niece has expressed an interest in learning to knit so for Christmas I
thought I would gift her with a book and some good yarn and needles for a
specific project (a scarf?) and, of course, a coupon for unlimited knitting
lessons. I was looking at books on the internet and plan to go peruse...

Best yarn for consistant dye lots? by
Andie Straus
Hi all,
I'm crocheting an afghan and the gauge swatch came out fine, but now I
realize the final dimensions are going to be a quite a bit smaller
than I'd like, so I'd like to add a few more rows. Unfortuantely, I
purchased only enough yarn (Plymouth Encore Knitting Worsted) to
complete the...

Exploded lace (crochet) by
Threnody
In yesterday's mail I received my copy of Doris Chan's beautiful book
"Amazing Crochet Lace" (ISBN 0-307-33975-0 ). In her introductory
pages she calls her technique "exploded lace," or lace that is
traditional in pattern but using larger yarn (DK and worsted) and larger
hooks.
Is this a...

What length circular needle to use by
BonnieBlue
I have a scarf to knit up in a feather and fan pattern. The pattern
says to cast on 250+ stitches so I will be working across the length of
it. It says the finished scarf is 60 inches long. The pattern does
not suggest what length of circular needle to buy to work the scarf so
I am coming to the...

lana grossa yarns by
[email protected]
Hi
I have found a beautiful pattern in a knitting magazine using lana
grossa kidlana yarn. I am unfortunately allergic to any wool. Does
anyone know of an alternative??? The tension is 17 stitches and 31 rows
to 10cm on 5mm (uk) needles. The yarn length for 25grams is 125m. If
anyone has any...

Socks by
Helena Bennett
I have recently tried knitting socks using 4/5 needles. So far I have only
made bedsocks with chunky wool, but would like to make finer ones.
My question is, when knitting do you have the knitting coming towards you,
ie with the right side showing, or going inwards so that the inside is...

A long time ago I knit my husband a pair of gloves that the trigger finger

Somebody stop me ;) by
Padishar Creel
Oh, they discounted my favorite yarn a dollar (US) per ball. And look
here they have some pattern books on sale as well! Better load up
then, eh?
Result = $94 and change invested in my stash...
Orginally, I ventured into the shop to ask a question about utilizing
the twisted drop stitch in a...

Socks again by
Helena Bennett
Thank you everyone for the advice on sock knitting. I finished the pair
and the one with the public side out was definitely better looking.
I am now trying Fancy Feet sock pattern from Simply Knitting which has a
lacy pattern. However, the size calls for 54 stitches but the pattern is
only...

I'm stumped! by
Donna Baliva
I am knitting these "Trigger finger" gloves and have run into a snag. These
are on 4 needles, which I don't do very often.
I am up to the trigger finger and the direction says
"Knit 1 stitch on the needle on the right (already has stitich on it) and
leave the extra stitch there."
How do you knit...

Another piece of knitted jewellery by
Shirley Shone
This time I have knitted a piece in gold plated wire and amethyst chips.
I laced it in to a frame of gold plated wire and beaded round it with
seed beads.
It is under beadwork on my website.
