How to achieve black leafing??? by adntigger710
Hello everyone! I have a predicament that I'm just all sorts of confused about, and I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me. I have a pair of sterling silver earrings that are clip-ons, but I want to make them studs. They are 3 dimensional, so in the crevices there is a black paint to...

Hi, For those of you familiar with casting steel (stainless or otherwise), I would like to find out its casting temperature. Please note that I'm not asking for steel's pouring temperature (which I believe is approximately 3000 F), but the temperature that the flask needs to be at pouring...

Gold plating by Jack Schmidling
I got some new gold plating solution today and the inside of my wine glass is now a lovely bright gold. The other solution was obviously over the hill. When I sanded and polished the bottom preparatory to plating I notice it was now a copper color that I thought might have been from the bad...

Gold Plating by Jack Schmidling
What determines the depth of a gold plating? I am using my new plating solution with a gold anode and it seems to work. What I don't understand is how long to continue the plating. Does it keep getting thicker forever? If I plate the part the next day, will it be twice as thick? js

what to do with a big gem by C Ryman
My husband came back from Malaysia bearing gifts. One was a citrine that's round and 11mm across and 7mm deep. I think it's too big for a ring (at least for me). I can't think of what to do with a stone that big and pointy. I don't want to be stabbed in the chest with it. Any ideas or web...

Ruby Value by Jack Schmidling
Can someone give me an idea of the range of value of rubies these days? I had the impression that a one carat ruby was valuable but most of what I see for sale is pretty cheap. The gem database has hundreds of them so I registered only to find that there are no prices on most of them. I am...
