gold plating by
DH in Denver
A guy told me he could gold plate and object which is about as big in
surface area as a small egg. He said he could do it while I waited.
I'd think it'd take a while for the gold to be deposited on the object.
Are there other ways of plating other than electroplating, where the
object is placed...

Newbie question - drilling stones by
Polly Stewart
Hi...new to this group and had a question for you guys. (don't newbies
always have questions?)
Christmas'03 I was given a kilo of stones, 7-14mm-ish, from Brazil.
They are nicely polished but unfortunately not drilled and since I only
have use for beads... I need to have them drilled. At a guess...

pure silver jewellery by
boomkap
I have been wearing a silver necklace for over 15 years now. It has
never tarnished till i started using the new Head & Shoulders intensive
care shampoo (Blue bottle). After using it 2 or 3 times, my silver
jewelery turned bronze! At first i did not make the connection, however
after lots of...

Papier Mache Marvels by
paula55
I produce feature mirror frames with pulp (my own recipe) and
papeir-mache (my own style; I use all sorts of methods with mache).
Brilliant material and strong! I'm really interested in discussing
this subject with any one on the site really. My aim is to use only
waste material to produce pulp...

Casting Resin beads? by
Kylie Hoschke
Hi all,
I'd like to try making some beads from casting resin, does anyone have any
hints on this? Has anyone tried it? I've been doing some surfing round but I
haven't been able to find much, and my partner said it would be too
difficult (I think he just doesn't want me to use his sinker moulds!!)...

more about my 'metalsmithing' and especially the lost wax/life casting
i've been working on. so, we took pictures and we're putting together
a narrative.

after my last posting, I realized that it took me a while to find these,
so I'll pass them along to save you some time if you are still searching.

proud pearls on rings escaping (too much pride?) by
Paul Watson
HI,
I am having trouble with proud pearls on rings coming off. They have a
hard life and are pinned in the standard way.
However if worn every day will free themselves after one year. If
anyone has some advice about how to secure a 8mm button/round pearl
that can stand the above punishment please...

Don't do jewelry any more. Need to sell leftover metals (casting grains and
sheet). Where do I do it in the greater Seattle area? Where do you send your
sweeps? etc
Thanks

vaccum casting machine by
Daniel
Thank you heinrich
I am already using a vaccum cleaner, which allows aspiration casting
(connected to a pressure cooker with a "home made" cover) , easy but
less efficient than vaccum casting in some cases. The idea of "sticks"
of wax, on the side of the cylincer is great. I 'll try asap....

Help identifying antique ring by
[email protected]
I am looking for some help identifying an antique ring that my wife
recently inherited...
It is a pyramid or cone shaped gold ring with 27 various types of
stones covering the pyramid/cone. We believe it was crafted in Japan
at least 40 years ago. The inside of the ring bears both the "14K"...

styrene burnout tips? by
br
I, like many of you I'm sure, have experimented with casting all kids of
stuff: insects, plants, small fish and lizards, etc. , but I don't have
much experience in plastics. I assume that there are types of plastics that
are not at all suited for this, ie: leftover soot, cinders or ashes,...
