Cone 6 Glazes WITHOUT Gertsley Borate? by
dkat
Just curious how people are doing on coming up with glazes without Gertsley
Borate. Does anyone have a favorite out of the "Mastering Cone 6 Glazes"
book? All of the glazes we use in the studio I have worked in are based on
the various Gertsley formulas. The glazes I like are the Randy's...

Having no memory what's so ever... (I actually believe that memory is
nothing more than a figment of the imagination) I cannot remember the name
of a potter in order to track down her site which I have lost the link to.
She has it set up so that other potters can upload their pictures to...

inverter with a battery at a show last week, but wasn't able to speak
with them. Has anyone used this? I will use if for my credit card
machine, maybe a fan. I was thinking of buying one that handles 400
watts at Home...

Raku glazes by
Richard Kaszeta
I'm growing restless with my current raku glazes (primarily white
crackle and copper matte, both of which have been giving excellent
results) and want to shake it up a bit.
Any recommended cone 08 raku recipes? Particularly, I'm looking for
bronze-ish glazes and red glazes (recently I saw a bunch...

CONE 6 RED GLAZE - IRON OXIDE INFORMATION by
ShantiP1
After I posted the last letter I looked up the higher grade iron oxide. It's
99% pure, not 95 as I stated in my note. You can buy it at:
http://www.uspigment.com/
It's pricy, and I use it selectively. It's the best candidate for those cone 6
oxidation iron reds
They are a good source of pigments...

Red effect glazes in an electric kiln by
J M
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to obtain reds and/or bright colours in
the glazes when fired in an electric kiln?
I understand that you need a reduced environment for these, but is it
possible during an oxidised firing?
I'm new to experimenting in mixing my own glazes, and at the moment,...

Skutt & Son Pottery Wheel? by
Pete Wolcott
I have aquired an old Skutt & Son Pottery Wheel Model B. Which I plan to
return to life.
If any of you are familiar with it, I would like to know how the rope switch
was originally attached to the foot peddle and how it operates.
Thanks,
Pete

kiln element life by
Kevin Baldwin
How long could I reasonably expect my kiln elements to last. So far I have
fired
23 bisque firings upto 1000'C
12 eathenware firings upto 1150'C
18 stoneware firings upto 1265'C
I have noticed that at stoneware temperatures I have to be very careful not
to overpack the kiln otherwise it struggles...
